In Pokémon GO there is a new monster: Keldeo has been available in the game since December 6th, but you need a ticket for it. How strong is it?
Where can you find Keldeo? Keldeo was added to Pokémon GO on December 6, 2022, with the “Mysterious Blade” event, but only as a reward for the special research “Something Extraordinary.”
You can only get this special research if you purchase the corresponding ticket from the shop – currently, it costs 9.99 euros. So Keldeo is currently behind a paywall, and the ticket is currently receiving criticism from players. Keldeo is not expected to be available to players without a ticket until later.
But what can the Pokémon actually do? Let’s take a closer look at Keldeo here.
Keldeo’s strength in Pokémon GO
This is Keldeo: Keldeo first appeared in the fifth generation of games and was introduced with the Black and White editions. It belongs to the “Mythical Pokémon,” like Mew or Victini, and is also associated with the “Knights of Justice” – the monsters around Cobalion, Terrakion, and Virizion.
It has the type combination of Water and Fighting, and can currently reach a maximum of 4,181 CP in Pokémon GO at max level. It is particularly notable for its high attack value.
How strong is Keldeo in PvE? Currently, Keldeo has the potential to be a very strong attacker for raids and gyms.
This applies especially as a Fighting type attacker: With a combination of the moves Low Kick and Sacred Sword, it is ranked as the third-best Fighting attacker by the portal GamePress.
It is surpassed in this type only by Mega Lopunny, which has only been available since the Hoenn Raid Day, and Terrakion, which has a slightly stronger moveset. Among Water attackers, however, other Pokémon may be more suitable. An overview can be found in the list of best attackers in Pokémon GO.
Cross-type, Keldeo is ranked in the A+ tier, where other strong attackers like Zekrom, Rampardos, Lucario, and various Mega Evolutions can also be found.
Overall, Keldeo is a strong Fighting attacker, which is likely to be useful in raids but also in battles against gyms. After all, “Normal” Pokémon, such as Chansey or Snorlax, which are particularly weak against Fighting attacks, are often used as defenders.
How strong is Keldeo in PvP? According to an analysis by Pokémon GO Hub, Keldeo is a solid option, especially in the Master League, while it is rather average in the Ultra League. The site PvPoke ranks Keldeo 66th in the Master League, and 299th in the Ultra League.
It is particularly noted for its damage output but lacks endurance. With its type distribution of Fighting and Water, it has many potential strengths but also weaknesses.
A benefit is that it can hold its own against many popular monsters in the league, such as Swampert, Dialga, or Yveltal – if you can set up a strong Keldeo. But that’s also the problem.
This is the problem with Keldeo: Currently, Keldeo can only be obtained from paid research in the event. So you need both luck to get good stats – and then you lack the candies to level it up to the required level.
Currently, candy collection for Keldeo is only possible through walking as a buddy or using rare candies. This makes it harder to level up the Pokémon to a high level.
