In Pokémon GO, you can challenge Xerneas and Yveltal with new attacks in raids. But is the battle worth it? We take a look at both.
What are these new attacks? In Pokémon GO, the two legendary Pokémon Xerneas and Yveltal appear in 5-star raids. They both have received a special new attack:
- Xerneas learns the fast move Geokontrolle of the Fairy type
- Yveltal masters the charged move Unheilsschwingen of the Flying type

But should you even catch the monsters? Let’s take a look at the strength of both legendary monsters.
What can Xerneas do with Geokontrolle?
Xerneas is this strong: For Xerneas, the attack Geokontrolle is an important upgrade, as it has a Fairy fast attack that it previously lacked. This solves a basic problem of the original release of Xerneas and makes it a very exciting Pokémon in the Master League of Pokémon GO.
This is immediately reflected in the ranking of PvP experts from PvPoke: Xerneas now takes the place as the fifth best Pokémon in the Master League when using the moveset of Geokontrolle, Nahkampf, and Mondgewalt (via pvpoke.com). In the other leagues, it plays no role.
Also, the PvP expert JRE47 comes to the conclusion in his analysis that Xerneas is now a powerful option in the Master League (via Reddit.com), as it defeats some of the most popular monsters in the league.
Also as a raid attacker, Xerneas becomes stronger with the new attack (via pokemongohub.com), but is expected to be surpassed by the available raid bosses of other Pokémon. So it is primarily a Pokémon for PvP fans.
Yveltal is this strong: Yveltal lands with the new move Unheilsschwingen in 18th place of the best Master League Pokémon from PvPoke.com and is thus also very useful.
However, JRE47 explains that Yveltal has already been useful in the league previously and that rather gains a side than an upgrade with its new move (via Reddit). It adds a few victories that it did not have before, but also loses some.
However, the expert thinks that Unheilsschwingen could actually be an upgrade in the Hyper League again, as there are more vulnerable monsters against Flying attacks around.
In raids, Yveltal is not a bad attacker, but for example in the flying area, it is surpassed by Rayquaza and its attack Zenitstürmer and especially its Mega form (via gamepress.gg). Accordingly, Yveltal is also rather a monster that is suitable for players in the battle league.
