Pokémon GO promises you Cosmog, Cosmovum, Solgaleo, and Lunala in the Season of Light. Their strength and Shinys we show you here on MeinMMO in the overview.
Which monsters are involved? In Pokémon GO it is that time again and the next season under the name “Season of Light”, so season of light, is ready and will replace the Season of GO on September 1st.
The first legendary monster is already established: Cosmog. What kind of Pokémon this is, what developments it has, and how strong these will be, we have summarized for you below.
What kind of Pokémon is Cosmog?
Cosmog is a legendary Pokémon from the 7th generation of games. It belongs to the Psychic type and can evolve in the anime and main games into Cosmovum to the Psychic and Steel Pokémon Solgaleo and to Lunala, a Pokémon of the Psychic and Ghost type.
Whether this will also be possible in Pokémon GO is still not entirely clear, as the Pokéminers, a group of data miners, have found preliminary hints in the source code that an evolution may not be possible. However, these are not official informations, so Niantic can still adjust this data.
What does Cosmog look like? The small pocket monster has a particularly cute but distinctive appearance. Its body is colored blue-purple and represents a night sky with its glowing white decorations. In the middle of its body is its black face, from which two golden sickles extend.
This gives the color play of Cosmog a visual resemblance to a nebula of dust and gas, as one knows them from images of the universe. For this reason, the legendary monster is also referred to as the Nebula Pokémon or “Child of the Stars”.

This is what Cosmovum, Solgaleo, and Lunala look like: Its evolution “Cosmovum” visually resembles a glass ball held by a golden frame. Its body is also colored purple and its decorations likewise resemble the night sky and the universe.
The last two stages of evolution from Cosmog, the legendary Pokémon Solgaleo and Lunala, symbolize the corresponding celestial bodies. While Solgaleo visually resembles a white lion at first glance, its radiating mane with its golden and red decorations represents the sun.
You can recognize Lunala mainly by its bat-like, purple body. The ends of its wings are also adorned with golden sickles that resemble the moon, which is why it forms the counterpart to Solgaleo.

How strong are Cosmog, Cosmovum, Solgaleo, and Lunala
Cosmog: Looking at the values of the small Psychic Pokémon, it becomes apparent that Cosmog is not particularly strong. It can only score with a somewhat higher value in endurance:
- Attack: 54
- Defense: 57
- Endurance: 125
In attack and defense, it still lands in the rear positions. Thus, it is rather unsuitable for use in raids and the PvP league.
Cosmovum: Unlike Cosmog, this is different for its evolution Cosmovum. This Pokémon is particularly strong in defense and can score well here. However, its endurance and attack do not differ at all compared to its pre-evolution, which is why it performs just as poorly:
- Attack: 54
- Defense: 242
- Endurance: 125
Solgaleo and Lunala: With strong values in attack, endurance, and defense, the last two evolutions, Solgaleo and Lunala, can convince:
- Attack: 255
- Defense: 191
- Endurance: 263
Thus, both can especially score in attack and endurance, which makes them particularly interesting for use in raids.
What needs to be considered: At this point, the planned moves of Cosmog and its evolutions are not yet officially known. A strong moveset is crucial for the respective monster to be able to impress in raids or the GO battle league.
Depending on which moves combination the two legendary Pokémon Solgaleo and Lunala ultimately get, it could even be conceivable for them to secure a place among the best attackers in Pokémon GO.
Findings of the Pokéminers: However, the Pokéminers have also found preliminary data in the source code regarding this. Cosmog, Cosmovum, Solgaleo, and Lunala are likely to have access to the following moves:
| Pokémon | Quick Attack | Charge Attack |
| Cosmog | Splash | Struggle |
| Cosmovum | Splash | Struggle |
| Solgaleo | Zen Headbutt Fire Spin | Heavy Slam Psychic Fangs Solar Beam Flamethrower |
| Lunala | Confusion Air Slash | Shadow Ball Psychic Moongeist Beam Future Sight |
Thus, Solgaleo could be interesting for the GO battle league according to PvPoke with a moveset consisting of Fire Spin, Psychic Fangs, and Heavy Slam. With a moveset of Confusion and Psychic, Lunala could also deal considerable damage to opponents in raids.
But you should view these findings with some caution. While the Pokéminers have been almost always correct with their information in the past, Niantic can still change their minds at any time and implement other attacks.
How to find and catch Cosmog, Cosmovum, Solgaleo & Lunala?
The way you can find the new legendary Pokémon has not yet been announced. One possibility would be within the special research planned for the Season of Light.
Another conceivable option is a release through Level 5 Raids. All raid bosses for the month of September are not yet known. It would be possible for two of the Psychic Pokémon to be hidden there from September 13 to September 27.
As soon as there is new information on this, you will find out at MeinMMO.
Is it worth it to catch Cosmog and its evolutions?
Can you catch shiny Cosmog? No, currently Niantic has not provided any information that you will have the chance to encounter a shiny specimen during the Season of Light. If there is new information on this, we will add it here.
Is it worth it to catch Cosmog and its evolutions anyway? Yes, even though Cosmog will probably not be available in its shiny form for now, you should not miss out on the Psychic Pokémon and its evolutions. Especially with Solgaleo and Lunala, the chances are good that you could get strong attackers for raids and the GO battle league.
What do you think of the prospects for the new legendary Pokémon? Will you secure Cosmog and its evolutions? Or would you prefer other monsters for the Season of Light? Let us know in the comments here on MeinMMO.
