Within a few months, Pokémon GO was released in many parts of the world. In the GIF, you can closely observe the exciting progress.
The augmented reality game Pokémon GO is now available in many regions around the world. Initially, the game was only released in a few countries. There were strong server issues that delayed the launch in Germany and other countries. About a week after the United States, Australia, and New Zealand, the game was released in Germany as well. You can follow which countries followed after and in what order through an interesting graphic.
Pokémon GO – Step by Step Around the World
After the launch in July, Pokémon GO was already available in over 90 countries by September. And the number of participating countries is still growing. There are some areas in the world where you (still) do not have access to Pokémon GO. This may be due to certain security policies of the country. In the following GIF, you can see when the game was released and which countries are still missing.

The game is not yet available, for example, in:
- China, South Korea, North Korea, Nepal, Bangladesh, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Sri Lanka, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Iran, or Ukraine.
- In Iran, the game is banned for security reasons.
- Pokémon GO has a geo-block in China, South Korea, and parts of India.
This map shows the official releases of Pokémon GO. Players in countries where the game has not yet been released can access the game by downloading an APK. In Russia, it was suspected that the US intelligence service is behind this “game”.
In the United States, a new type of tracker with the “Nearby” feature is currently being tested. You can see what this tracker looks like here.
