You can counter Ho-Oh in Pokémon GO with these attackers. The Firebird has many weaknesses that you can exploit.
For a few days, the legendary Pokémon “Ho-Oh” is available as a Raid Boss in Pokémon GO. In level 5 raids, the Firebird can appear and face you as an opponent. To increase your chances of victory, you should attack with effective Pokémon. We will show you which ones are suitable here.
Ho-Oh – Stats as a Raid Boss
Ho-Oh is one of the legendary raid bosses in Pokémon GO. It belongs to the Fire and Flying types, making it particularly susceptible to Water, Electric, and Rock-type attacks. The boss will only be available for two weeks.
As a raid boss, Ho-Oh has 48276 CP and has a maximum of 2222 CP at level 20 with a 100% IV value after being caught. The number of trainers you need to defeat Ho-Oh depends entirely on your Pokémon. In our Pokémon GO group on Facebook, many players report that they have already achieved victory with six or seven trainers (level 30+). Players with weaker Pokémon should find slightly larger groups.
What moves does Ho-Oh have?
Ho-Oh can master the following moves:
- Fast Moves
- Steel Wing (Steel)
- Confusion (Psychic)
- Charge Moves
- Brave Bird (Flying)
- Fire Blast (Fire)
- Solar Beam (Grass)
Ho-Oh Counters – Which Pokémon are strong attackers?
The attacker field against Ho-Oh is as colorful as the feathers of the monster. You have good chances with recently caught Legendary Pokémon like Raikou. Tried-and-true attackers like Vaporeon or Tyranitar also deal strong hits against the Firebird.
In principle, Ho-Oh shares many counters with Zapdos as it belongs to the same types. However, you should be cautious of Ho-Oh’s Solar Beam. If you don’t dodge the attack, it can hit hard. Golem and Ampharos can quickly get taken out by this attack.
The following Pokémon and movesets are strong against Ho-Oh:
- Raikou with a moveset of Thunder Shock and Wild Charge
- Zapdos with a moveset of Zap Cannon and Thunderbolt
- Ampharos with a moveset of Stone Edge or Water Gun and Rock Slide, Ancient Power, or Hydro Pump
- Golem with a moveset of Stone Edge and Rock Slide or Ancient Power
- Dragonite with a moveset of Dragon Tail or Fire Spin and Outrage, Dragon Claw or Hurricane
- Tyranitar with a moveset of Bite and Stone Edge
- Vaporeon with a moveset of Water Gun and Hydro Pump or Quick Attack
- Gyarados w/ith a moveset of Bite, Fire Spin or Dragon Tail and Hydro Pump
Then there are so-called “Glass Cannons.” These attackers deal a lot of damage but can’t take much damage themselves.
- Starmie with a moveset of Water Gun or Hidden Power and Power Gem
- Jolteon with a moveset of Thunder Shock and Thunderbolt or Volt Switch
- Exeggutor with a moveset of Stone Edge and Rock Slide or Ancient Power
Catching Ho-Oh – Catch Rate
The base catch rate of Ho-Oh is 2%, just like with the legendary beasts and Lugia. We recommend curveballs combined with great or excellent throws and golden razz berries. Medals for Fire and Flying-type Pokémon are also helpful.
