Hatching eggs in Pokémon GO is particularly worthwhile during the Fire and Ice event. This extremely high EXP bonus is a surprise!
Last night, the Fire and Ice event in Pokémon GO, also known as the Solstice event, started. During the event, trainers can expect some in-game bonuses, such as the more frequent appearance of Fire or Ice-type monsters.
The developers also announced a experience points bonus for throws and for hatching eggs. That these bonuses are so extremely high is a pleasant surprise for many trainers.
Triple experience points for throws and catches
In the announcement for the Solstice event, the Niantic team already pointed out that there are “big EP bonuses” in the coming days. Trainers are to be rewarded for making great, excellent, or fantastic throws by receiving more experience points for accurate throws.
The developers did not specify how high the experience points bonus is. Since the event has been active, trainers could observe how strong the bonus is. It was noted:
- Catching a Pokémon gives 3x experience (The bonus for the first catch of the day or the 7-day streak is not tripled)
- Good, great, or fantastic throws give 3x experience
- Curve balls give 3x experience
So make an effort when catching a Pokémon to earn even more experience points.
There is an even higher bonus for hatching eggs.
5x EXP for hatching eggs
This is no typo! Trainers receive five times the experience for hatching eggs during the Fire and Ice event. Trainers have noticed this extreme bonus since the event started last night.
On Reddit, user Justwantsomekindness writes that he hatched three 2KM eggs and received 3000 experience points for that. Without the event, that would have been 200 XP per egg, totaling 600 XP.
If you combine these five-fold experience points with the Lucky Eggs, which are currently cheaper in the shop, then you can expect a lot of experience points. Anyone who has saved their 10KM eggs can get 90,000 experience points at once for hatching 9 eggs. Trainer Zacwaz on Reddit shows what that might look like:
