The new coin system in Pokémon GO sparked a lot of criticism in the first days. Now a quest has been removed and will no longer be activated. But what about the other one that is so annoying?
This is new: Niantic spoke up on Friday night and explained that they had heard the fans’ feedback. Therefore, they have now removed the quest where players need to defeat a Team Rocket boss.
However, the controversial raid quest remains in the system, which is causing many discussions during the Enigma Week. Here are the details.
What Niantic says about the Rocket quest
Quest is being removed: On Twitter, Niantic’s support wrote on August 7: “In response to community feedback, we removed the task ‘Defeat a GO Rocket Boss’ from the list of daily tasks for players in the limited test countries of the PokéCoin rewards. Thank you for your ongoing feedback during this active test phase.”
What’s behind it: On Wednesday, August 5, we received the news that Niantic is now testing the new coin system of Pokémon GO in Germany and other countries as well. Previously, it had only been running in Australia.
Already on the first test day in Germany, trainers noticed a quest that slows them down. “Win a raid”. The problem is that due to COVID-19, raid groups are happening less frequently, and trainers are having trouble finding raids. In rural areas, raids are often only done via remote raid passes, and you cannot use the raid pass that you get for free once a day.
The remote raid pass has a single value of 100 coins. Completing the quests only brings in 20 coins. This led to a lot of criticism.
On the second day, the quests in the coin system rotated. Newly included was the task “Defeat a Team GO Rocket Boss”. And this task also received a lot of criticism from trainers. After all, you first have to defeat 6 grunts to earn a Rocket Radar, which can then eventually track down a boss. The quests are always limited to one day. So anyone who does not have enough time to search for 6 grunts in one day and then fight a boss could not complete the task.
Alternatively, you can buy a Rocket Radar in the Pokémon GO shop for 200 coins. Or you were lucky and had already defeated grunts on previous days, so you had a radar in your inventory right in time for the quest.
The bosses include
What trainers criticized: In our MeinMMO Facebook group, players wrote about the issue:
- “Especially you have to defeat 6 grunts for 1 boss. I can’t even do that in a week”
- “I also find it crazy to defeat a boss for the coins. Great, now I can’t gather them anymore. Niantic knows how to make money.”
- “Too bad, now I only have 30 coins because I have no desire to deal with the Rocket nonsense, not even 6 times.”
And there was also criticism in the comments on our MeinMMO. Player Flavius points out that solving this task can become a significant time problem. Especially players who work would have issues with it.
“They know what they are doing”
These are now the reactions: On Twitter and reddit, Niantic’s feedback is being discussed. People are happy that the feedback from players was heard and the quest has now been removed from the selection.
Trainer Eliwood_of_Pherae writes on reddit: “It’s a start that they are really listening. We will see if they continue to resist removing the ‘Win a raid’ quest. But honestly, that is a good sign.”
In response, mrtrevor3 (via reddit) states that there has been a lot of negative criticism of the “Win a raid” task – for months now. This task was not removed. Now the Rocket task received a lot of negative feedback for just two days and was removed. This decision by Niantic raises the user’s questions.
Other users view this much more critically and accuse the developers of malicious intentions. It is said that Niantic had only included the Rocket quest in the coin system to remove it later for publicity and to create good vibes.
One writes, “It was super clear that they only included the task to remove it and say that they listen to feedback. They know what they are doing with the ‘Win a raid’ task.”
We are curious whether Niantic will give in regarding the raid task and remove it from the system or if it will stay in there for now.
A concept for a cool feature in raid battles was recently shown by a trainer. This feature is probably what we all want in our raids in Pokémon GO
