Pokémon GO has introduced Shiny Geronimatz this week. However, many trainers are upset about the implementation, as the Shiny seems to be incredibly rare again.
This is the new Shiny: Pokémon GO has launched an event around Shiny Celebi, which will be available through a special research. Besides the hype surrounding the mysterious Pokémon, another Shiny has nearly been overshadowed: Geronimatz.
You can now encounter the monster in its shiny form. The problem, however, is that it is far too rare for many trainers.
Shiny Geronimatz – The new Kapuno?
What trainers are complaining about: There are several triggers that are the reason for the criticism:
- Geronimatz cannot be found in the wild – only through raids or eggs, which can become costly in bulk
- The raids for Geronimatz are incredibly rare – luck is needed to find one at all
- The shiny rate seems to be poor – many trainers show their rates
Here lies the big problem: Most shinies are introduced in Pokémon GO through the wild. During an event, you play a lot and have a good chance of getting the new shiny, as the spawn rate is usually increased.
With Geronimatz, however, this is not the case. You only get it through raids or eggs – meaning you need raid passes and incubators. If you want to increase your chances of getting a shiny, you have to invest real money. Otherwise, you can only do one raid per day and hatch only a few eggs depending on your play style.
On top of that, the raids are incredibly rare. Even if you want to spend raid passes, you often can’t find a Geronimatz raid.
In general, trainers are annoyed that a new shiny is hidden behind a paywall. Only those who spend money have better chances of encountering the shiny. Pure gameplay is not rewarded.
There was a similar case: Some trainers are already comparing Geronimatz to Kapuno. The shiny form of Kapuno was introduced in the summer, but it could only be incredibly rarely obtained from eggs. Many trainers accused Niantic back then of only wanting to make money from it and demanded that they finally disclose the drop rates of the Pokémon – just like with loot boxes.
This is what trainers are saying now: There are numerous threads on Reddit again that complain about the shiny rate of Geronimatz. Here are some examples:
- BlueMysticNA: “My raid group has done over 500 Geronimatz raids in total. None of them were shiny. How about you guys? Niantic and these loot boxes…. what are the chances?”
- reaper36a: “No Geronimatz raid has been sighted today in our city.”
- Neilkd: “2 people in my community of 400 people have caught it [Shiny Geronimatz]. Although about half of us did at least 3 Geronimatz raids yesterday (we live in a big city).”
- Environmental_Eye_61: “It’s pretty much the same fiasco as with Kapuno, but they’ve ensured to cover up the fact that Geronimatz doesn’t just occur in eggs this time, but also in raids.”
So you probably need a lot of money or a lot of patience and luck to catch a shiny Geronimatz. It remains to be seen whether Niantic will respond to the trainers’ criticism and make access to Geronimatz easier.
