The gifts in Pokémon GO recently received an improvement that helped with full item bags. However, it seems to have disappeared again.
What was this improvement? The feature was called “Open gifts when the item bag is full”.
This option allowed players to open gifts from friends even when they had no space for items. As a reward, only stardust was given, but just 50 units.
The advantage was that you could still advance the friendship level even when your items were full and you didn’t want to delete old items. Additionally, there was a bit of stardust that you wouldn’t want to give up. Especially, when opening many gifts, this is useful.
This feature was discovered by some trainers on July 23 in their game (via reddit). Similar to the new ball-remember feature, it could be activated or deactivated in the settings menu.
However, this feature now appears to be unavailable.
Where is the gifts feature now?
On Twitter, the PokeMiners explained that the feature was apparently disabled again for all accounts on August 12.
The PokeMiners are a group of data miners who regularly search the code of Pokémon GO for new features and updates. They often provide leaks that show what players might expect, sometimes even before an event or similar occurs.
No possible reasons for the removal are known so far. As soon as there is something new, we will keep you updated. Currently, there is no corresponding feature available in the game. If you try to open a gift with a full bag, you get the following screen:
The curious thing is that the feature was removed before all players could use it. Some didn’t even know it was an option. Whether and when it will come back is still uncertain.
