Pokémon GO: Guide to the Community Day in December 2022 – How to use the event

In Pokémon GO is running this weekend the double Community Day from December 17th to December 18th, 2022. A whole bunch of Pokémon can be caught there. We look at the start, bonuses, and all the information that is important for the event.

This is the event: The Community Day takes place every month in Pokémon GO and always focuses on a specific monster.

The December event is however a special case: It lasts for two days and brings all monsters from the Community Days of 2022 and 2021 once more.

Thus, a whole bunch of monsters spawn that you can encounter in the wild, but they can also be found in eggs and raids. Here we show you everything in an overview.

Community Day December 2022 – Start, Time, and Bonuses

Furthermore, it was already announced before the Community Day that Pokémon storage will now be raised to 6,200 slots. You can expand it with the expansion from the shop if you were already at the maximum.

Be careful with bonus times: Currently, there is conflicting information about the times of the bonuses.

• On the official Pokémon GO page, it is clarified that most bonuses run only from 14:00 to 17:00 – with the exception of the two trading bonuses. These two bonuses are supposed to run from 09:00 to 21:00 (via pokemongolive.com).
• The page pokemon.com however states that all bonuses will run from 09:00 to 21:00.

As of now, only the two trade bonuses and the event ticket in the shop are active between 09:00 and 21:00. The other bonuses are available between 14:00 and 17:00.

When do which Pokémon spawn? Basically, the event Pokémon can appear on both days between 09:00 and 21:00 – so also outside the actual times.

In the wild, you will encounter the monsters from this year’s Community Days, 2022. However, there are different increased spawns in the wild from day to day.

Can the monsters be shiny? Yes, all available event Pokémon can appear in their shiny versions. The chance is increased during the event.

All Special Moves for Community Day 2022 Overview

How to get the moves? Special moves are available for the final evolutions of the event monsters. You have to collect enough candy to evolve the monsters so you can get the moves – because you only have time to get them this weekend.

Important: The moves are available on both days but only between 09:00 and 21:00. So do not evolve the monsters during the night between Saturday, 21:00 and Sunday, 09:00.

How to Make the Most of Community Day in December 2022

Prepare well: What is fundamentally true for any community day also applies in December:

• Go into the day with enough Poké Balls
• Make enough space in your storage so you don’t have to send away monsters in between

When sorting, it’s best to use the filter function of Pokémon GO and view your weaker monsters through the filter “0*,1*,2*”.

Which items are worth it? Generally, a full set of items can be quite useful on this Community Day, as there are bonuses for Stardust as well as EXP and many different monsters to catch. Accordingly, it is worthwhile to maximize:

• Incense for 3 hours
• Lure Modules if you stay in one place for a longer time
• Star Pieces and Lucky Eggs for more EXP

Depending on which Pokémon you want, you will also have to rely on Raid Passes and Incubators.

Tip: In the shop, there is currently a box for 375 coins that includes 5 incubators and 5 super incubators. It can only be purchased once, but the price is unusually low. If you are aiming for the monsters from the eggs or want to use the half-distance bonus for 10km-, 12km-, or 7km eggs on Community Day, the box can be worthwhile.

Additionally, Nanab Berries can provide you with more candy. This could be particularly useful during this Community Day as not only a specific, but many different monsters will appear. If you only have a specific one in sight, it is worthwhile to focus on that one while catching and feeding it Nanab Berries.

Be careful with Shadow Pokémon regarding moves: Some of the Pokémon on this C-Day are also available in their Shadow variants. If you are only after candies for your Shadow Pokémon, pay attention to the Pokémon’s moves when evolving: If you haven’t removed Frustration yet, your monster will not get the event move.

Which are the best monsters? The field is quite broad and some Pokémon are more useful than others. Basically, if you’re missing one of the monsters in your collection, grab it for the Pokédex. The exact overview of the best moves and Pokémon can be found here.

Otherwise, a brief overview of interesting monsters:

• Drilbur will evolve into Excadrill, which is a very strong Dark attacker for raids. Definitely worthwhile.
  • You can find the list of the best attackers in Pokémon GO here.
• Sandile evolves into Krookodile, a top ground attacker, also worthwhile.
• Dratini, as Dragonite, remains a very strong monster.
• Treecko evolves into Sceptile, a strong attacker for raids & in the battle league. It also has a Mega evolution that is very strong.
• Bulbasaur and its evolution Venusaur are no longer rare, but if you don’t have it yet, you get a strong monster – especially in its Shadow version.
• Walrein is especially a good option in the battle league.
• Chandelure can impress as a ghost and fire attacker in raids but needs other moves.
• Machop has a lot of use as Machamp, but it needs more of a fighting move than the event move “Counter” and is only found in raids.

Depending on which Pokémon you particularly want, it might be worth it to evolve a Mega Evolution of the same type on Community Day. Then there are extra candies for every catch.
