The big Community Day event in December at Pokémon GO spans over 2 days and takes place on December 12th and 13th. We will show you all the Shinys, bonuses, tips, times, attacks, and what you need to know for the event.
What is a Community Day? Once a month, there is an event of this kind at Pokémon GO. Normally, only one Pokémon species is in the spotlight. But in December 2020, the developers are making it an even bigger project.
During the two-day event, all Pokémon that were found during Community Days in 2019 and 2020 will appear more frequently in the wild and in raids. So if you missed any, you can catch up now.

Community Day in December 2020 – Bonuses, Spawns, and Start Time
When: On Saturday, December 12th and Sunday, December 13th from 11 AM to 5 PM
Pokémon of the Days: All previous Community Day Pokémon
Bonus: During both days, Community Day Pokémon will appear in raids and eggs
Bonus 2: Incense lasts for 3 hours
Bonus 3: Distance to hatch eggs is reduced by half
Bonus 4: Double Stardust for catching Pokémon
Bonuses for both days: From Saturday, December 12th at 6:00 AM to Sunday, December 13th at 10:00 PM local time:
- Spawns in the wild: Charmander, Weedle, Abra, Gastly, Rhyhorn, Electabuzz, Magmar, Magikarp, Porygon, Budew, and Piplup
- Raid bosses: Croagunk, Piplup, Treecko, Torchic, Mudkip, Surskit, Snorlax, Trapinch, Dratini, Turtwig, and Monferno
- 2-km eggs: Croagunk, Piplup, Treecko, Torchic, Mudkip, Surskit, Snorlax, Trapinch, Dratini, Turtwig, and Monferno
In the shop, you will again find a special offer box for the Community Day. This costs as you already know from previous events 1280 PokéCoins. It contains
- 30 Ultra Balls
- 5 Lucky Eggs
- 1 Premium Battle Pass
- and 1 Elite Charged TM
1-€ Ticket and Free Research
Ticket: As you know from the last Community Days, there will be a ticket to purchase in the shop for about 1 €. This ticket grants you special research tasks and rewards for the event.

Free Research: There is also free research available for all players. Every player will see this at the start of the event in the “Today” overview.
- Send 10 Pokémon
- Reward: 10 Poké Balls
- Catch 12 different species of Pokémon
- Reward: 15 Great Balls
- Catch 40 Pokémon
- Reward: 10 Ultra Balls
Stage Reward: If you complete all 3 tasks, you will receive 2,000 XP, 25 Poké Balls, and an Elite Charged TM.
Bonuses and Shinys on Saturday, December 12th, 2020
What happens there? On the first day of the event, you will encounter the first selection of special Pokémon and their Shinys from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM. The developers have increased the chances of finding certain Shinys on both days.
More Spawns and Shinys: The following species will be found more frequently. The chances for their Shinys are increased.
- Weedle,
- Abra,
- Gastly,
- Rhyhorn,
- Budew
- and Piplup
Mega Raids: In the Mega Raids, Mega Gengar will appear more frequently.
Additionally, there is double Stardust for catching Pokémon, halved hatch distance, and incense lasting for 3 hours.
On Saturday, the Rocket Event, where you can unlearn frustration attacks from Shadow Pokémon will also be running.
Bonuses and Shinys on Sunday, December 13th, 2020
What happens there? On the second day of the event, you will encounter different monsters and their Shinys more frequently from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM. The bonuses of double catch Stardust, halved hatch distances, and the 3-hour incense remain.
More Spawns and Shinys: The following species will be found more frequently. The chances for their Shinys are increased.
- Charmander,
- Electabuzz,
- Magmar,
- Magikarp
- and Porygon
Mega Raids: In the Mega Raids, Mega Charizard X will appear more frequently on Sunday.
Community Day Attacks – Which are strong?
Special Attacks: If you evolve certain Pokémon during Community Days, they will learn exclusive attacks.

Tips for the Community Day in December 2020
How to make the most of the event: Collect a lot of Poké Balls before it starts. Open gifts from friends and spin PokéStops when possible. But remember to follow the safety rules regarding the COVID crisis.
For an event day, you should plan at least 300 balls if you want to play a lot.
Use these aids while playing: If you want to catch Pokémon quickly, you should use the catching trick. This skips the catching animations, making you substantially faster.
You can also hatch eggs from home
If you want to refill your Stardust stock, you should also use Star Pieces during the event. They increase the already doubled Stardust from catching.
