Pokémon GO has unveiled its major update. Several new features are coming to the game. We will show you what will be released and when.
What kind of update is this? A few days ago, Pokémon GO released a teaser explaining that a major update under the motto “Rediscover GO!” would be coming soon. Now it’s here: the first contents of the update are known, and the release of the first ones is already approaching.
- On April 17, “Rediscover yourselves anew” will start
- On April 22, “Rediscover the world anew” will come
- Also on April 22, “Rediscover Kanto anew” will be released
- And on May 7, “Rediscover reality anew” will conclude
What it’s all about is summarized below. Additionally, a small trailer for the update has been released, which you can watch here:
Update on April 17 brings avatar customization for Pokémon GO
What’s included? Recently, some trainers were able to test the customization, and now it’s available for everyone: you will have broader options to customize your avatar in Pokémon GO. Tests from trainers in the past have already shown that various options, such as new hairstyles, body models, and more are included.
What it might look like was already shown by a user on reddit about a month ago:
Update on April 22 follows with new biomes and Kanto monsters
What’s included? Here the new catch screens are expected to appear, which have already been tested by some players in the past. The special thing here is that they adapt to the different locations where you play. If you play in a city, the catch screen will also show a city, at the lake you will find a corresponding background, and so on.
They looked something like this in player tests, as a user on reddit shows:
At the same time, a Kanto event will apparently be starting. It is said that monsters from the first generation can be found that spawn in corresponding biomes. Which exactly those are is still open.
Update on May 7 overhauls AR photos
What’s included? That’s still somewhat unclear. It’s currently known that it concerns the snapshot feature, with which you can photograph your Pokémon. In a teaser on the official blog about this (via pokemongolive.com), three monsters can be seen in one image, which might indicate a reintroduction of multiple buddy monsters in a snapshot.
The announcement states that some trainers in Australia are expected to receive the update in the coming weeks, which indicates that more tests are likely to happen. As soon as new information becomes available, we will keep you updated.
Additionally, there have already been several quality-of-life updates in recent weeks that improved the game, such as the shortened raid timer, when you’re ready, the “heal all button,” and more.
