In Pokémon GO there is a special Raid Day with Mega Gyarados on October 8th. On this day, you can secure up to 8 free Raid Passes. We at MeinMMO have taken a look at how it works.
What event is it about? On Wednesday, the big Star Event starts in Pokémon GO which will revolve around evolutions. Part of this event is a special Raid Day on October 8th, 2022, bringing you Mega Gyarados.
But the Pokémon is not the only thing you can look forward to on this day. Niantic is again giving you one or two free passes. In total, if you play it right, you can secure up to 8 such passes. We will show you how to do it.
When is the Raid Day? The Raid Day with Mega Gyarados takes place on Saturday, October 8th, 2022, from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM.
How to get 8 free passes
As Pokémon GO has announced in its blog post, there will be free passes during the Raid Day again (via pokemongolive.com). According to Niantic, you can receive 5 additional ones by spinning the Photo Discs at gyms.
How do you get 8 passes from that? As reddit user Alex-The-Axew explains in his current post, you can actually secure up to 8 free passes for this day with some skillful planning.
The Raid Day with Mega Gyarados is not the first of its kind. On September 11th, you could already battle Deoxys in its various forms during such an event. For this, Niantic had also announced the 5 additional passes.
However, as Alex-The-Axew explains, it was determined for this event that the 5 passes were counted in addition to the 2 daily free Raid Passes you receive as part of the Season of Light. Thus, trainers secured 7 free passes that day.
Since the wording in the event announcement is the same as for Deoxys, it can be assumed that you can also secure this amount for the Raid Day with Mega Gyarados. If you did not use all your Raid Passes the day before, you can save one for the next day. This will then be in addition to the 7 passes, giving you 8 free Raid Passes.
What should you consider? You do not receive the passes all at once, but can secure them after a raid by spinning the Photo Disc. So if you still have a Raid Pass from the previous day in your item bag at the start of the Raid Day, you need to use it first before you can receive the next one.
Additionally, the passes must be picked up by the end of the Raid Day, meaning by 5 PM local time. Only during this time is the bonus regarding the additional passes valid. So if you have already used your usual 2 passes per day and only spin the Photo Disc after the event ends, it may happen that you do not get any more passes and have to wait until the next day.
Is the Raid Day with Mega Gyarados worth it?
Besides the free Raid Passes you can secure for this event, you have the chance to complete numerous Mega Raids with Gyarados during the Raid Day. This is particularly worthwhile because of the Mega Energy you can collect to evolve your own Mega Gyarados.
Are there Shiny Gyarados? Yes, with a bit of luck, you might encounter a Shiny Gyarados after the raid. The chances of this happening are even a bit higher on Raid Day than normal. Keep an eye out for a red specimen.
How strong is Gyarados: Gyarados is a Water and Flying Pokémon from Generation 1. It evolves from Magikarp and has its own temporary Mega Evolution. Due to its strong attack and stamina values, with a moveset of Cascade and Hydro Pump, Gyarados is one of the best Water attackers in Pokémon GO.
And even in the Master League, it can score well with a combination of Fire Fang, Aqua Tail, and Crunch (via pvpoke.com). Its Mega Evolution is also a bit stronger, making it great for use in raids.
