In Pokémon GO, you should obtain the Platinum Kanto Medal to continue the Masterwork research with Shiny Mew. How does that work?
This is the task: You can currently purchase the Masterwork research “Everything in one… No. 151” in the shop if you did not already have a ticket for it before.
The research entices with Shiny Mew as a reward, but it is designed to be time-consuming and not easy to solve.
This is already shown by the first step of the research, which requires a Platinum Kanto Medal from you.
How do I get the Platinum Kanto Medal? To obtain the medal, you must register all 151 Pokémon from the Kanto region in the Pokédex. If you are still missing Pokémon from the first generation, you need to gather them first before you can continue.
You can do this through:
- Wild spawns
- Trading with other trainers
Some of the Kanto monsters appear now in the birthday event, but some are really difficult to catch. We list some of the toughest below with their locations.
Monsters like Tauros and Kangama make the Platinum Kanto Medal difficult
There are some Pokémon in the Kanto region that are not so easy to obtain. This is especially true for regional Pokémon and legendary Pokémon. We will show you here how you can obtain them.
- Tauros: This regional Pokémon is found in the USA, southern Canada, and northern Mexico. If you’re not there, you should try to get a trade with other trainers. Or you can wait for an event with Tauros in raids.
- Kangama: Also regional, found in Australia. The same applies as with Tauros. However, you can also hope for Mega-Kangama, which could come back in raids sometime.
- Pantimos: Also regional, but found in Europe.
- Porenta: You can find it in Asia, such as in South Korea or Japan, but also in Taiwan and Hong Kong. Here you can also rely on a trade or look for the Galar version, which has already appeared more commonly.
Otherwise, you have to try to encounter trainers with these monsters and trade.
Legendary and Mysterious: They can also be difficult to obtain. Here’s a brief overview:
- Arktos, Zapdos, and Lavados: You have good chances in the current raids for the 7th birthday of Pokémon GO, they are available as raid bosses.
- Mew: You also need to obtain Mew. Trainers get it from the research “A mysterious discovery”.
- Mewtwo: This could be tricky, as the strong attacker was just previously a boss in the Crypto Raids. When Mewtwo will be available in the game again is currently unknown. If you’re missing it, and you want to get through the research quickly, you might also hope for a trade here.
All other Pokémon will need to be sought, usually filling up the Dex over time. However, the task was much easier than when events like the Kanto Tour filled with Kanto spawns occurred. But who knows – perhaps something in this form will come back again.
If you are missing certain monsters, look for trainers who have been around longer and try to get them through trading.
Speaking of events: For the 7th birthday of Pokémon GO, we look back at 7 events that we need much more of.
