Which Pokémon is it about? In Pokémon GO, today, on August 27th, the second GO Fest day is taking place. In this Mega-Rayquaza makes its worldwide debut in the game, and for the first time, it can be transformed into its temporary Mega form by all trainers. However, unlike other Mega evolutions, the Mega energy is not sufficient for this legendary dragon- and flying-type Pokémon.

Evolving Rayquaza – All about meteorites, Zenitstürmer & Mega Energy

What is different about evolving Rayquaza? In Pokémon GO, there is already a series of Mega evolutions, but for these, you only need one thing: a lot of Mega energy. With Rayquaza, it’s a bit different. While you do need to have Mega energy to trigger the Mega evolution, Rayquaza also requires a specific move to evolve: Zenitstürmer.

This move cannot just be learned through a charged TM or Elite Charged TM, as you might do with other Pokémon. If you want to teach your Rayquaza the move, you need a new item, a so-called meteorite.

How to get meteorites for Rayquaza

Special Research: For today’s GO Fest, all trainers, whether they have a ticket or not, receive a special research task related to Rayquaza. If you complete this, you can secure one of these meteorites as a reward on Table 1.

For ticket holders, there will be another research task about Rayquaza after the first one, which also includes a meteorite. So, through the two research tasks, you can secure two meteorites.

Learning Zenitstürmer and collecting Mega Energy

How to teach Rayquaza Zenitstürmer: Zenitstürmer is a completely new move that Rayquaza can learn with a meteorite and is a prerequisite for its transformation into Mega-Rayquaza.

The assignment of the new move is very simple. Follow these steps:

• Select your desired Rayquaza
• Scroll down, below its current moves
• Under the New Move button, you will now find the Zenitstürmer button, with a corresponding note that you need a meteorite to perform it
• Click this to change the current charged move to Zenitstürmer

Note that Zenitstürmer is a powerful charged move of the flying type, which is why it may be useful to teach your Rayquaza a pure flying move combination of Air Slash and Zenitstürmer.

How much Mega Energy is needed? To evolve Rayquaza, you also need a significant amount of Mega Energy. You need to have collected 400 Mega Energy to trigger the evolution with the help of the new move.

How to get Mega Energy for Rayquaza? You get Mega Energy for Rayquaza whenever you win a Mega Raid against the Pokémon. The amount depends on how quickly the raid boss was defeated.

Furthermore, ticket holders can look forward to Mega Energy in the special research. From this, you will receive the required 300 Mega Energy.
