The new avatar update for Pokémon GO is live, with several changes. The gender selection for the avatar has also been adjusted. How does it work now?
What kind of update is this? From now on, the new update is live, giving you various customization options for your avatar. This includes adjusting hairstyles, more details concerning body types, and various faces. However, the new look in the update is facing some backlash from players; more on that here.
At the same time, a button has been removed with the update: The “Change Gender Button,” which was previously seen in the top right corner. There, you could switch between a female and a male avatar.
The absence of this feature has led some players to ask how they can now change their gender.
Where is the gender button now? As of now, this button is no longer available at all. Instead, you can accept various adjustments in the avatar’s details.
How do you change the gender in Pokémon GO now?
These options are available: Currently, there are no separate avatars for the genders in Pokémon GO, but one avatar that can be customized in different ways.
Depending on how you want to look, you can make changes to the faces, hair, body types, and clothing, for example.
For body types, you can either select one of ten preset options or make your adjustments using the “custom” button with sliders.

You will also be offered several options for hairstyles, ranging from “Short” to “Medium” to “Long.”
Basically, every feature is combinable with every other feature. Therefore, there are no separate avatars anymore, but the possibility to customize the character completely as one wishes.
