The news that a Shiny Pikachu is supposed to appear in Pokémon GO next week is currently spreading through social networks. Many trainers simply accept this news as “real” and do not question where this information comes from.
The hint about the “shiny” Pikachu comes from the site SlashGear, which received a “tip”. However, it is not explained who this tip comes from and why it is supposed to be trustworthy.
Special Pikachu is coming, but is it Shiny?
With titles like “Shiny Pikachu is likely coming next week” the rumor about this special Pokémon is spread on social networks. The site Mobiflip is referring to an article on the website “SlashGear“, which promises “SHINY Pikachu coming to Pokémon GO.”
In the article from SlashGear, they justify this exclusive news about Shiny Pikachu by saying: “This morning we received a tip regarding the next rare Pokémon in Pokémon GO: Shiny Pikachu.” However, it is not explained where this tip comes from and whether the source has leaked events in the past and is trustworthy.
Instead, the rest of the article recounts the content of a Reddit post discussing a “rare Pikachu.” There was no mention of “Shiny” on Reddit.
Rare Pikachu will be released
The origin of the “Shiny Pikachu” news can be found on Reddit. There, user legoturtle92 shares an email sent to participants of a graphics/animation fair. Staff from Niantic will be present at the ACM Siggraph convention. The email explains that Niantic will be releasing a rare Pikachu.
The email clearly mentions a “rare Pikachu.” The difference from the current rumor is a mysterious “tip” that SlashGear received. Apart from this tip, there are no other sources confirming a Shiny Pikachu.
At this point, we would like to point out that a release of a Shiny Pikachu next week is “possible.”
However, it could just as well be a special Pikachu for the anniversary of Pokémon GO, which, while changed in appearance, is not a Shiny variant. We will find out by next week at the latest which Pikachu this is.
