In Pokémon GO, a new event and a special research will start on March 20, 2020. Both revolve around the mysterious Pokémon Genesect, which will be introduced in the game.
What happens on March 20? This coming Friday, two special events will start simultaneously, both at 8:00 AM local time:
- The mysterious weekend event
- The special research adventure “Modular Investigations”
Both focus on the Pokémon Genesect, which has already been teased. We will give you more details about the events.
Special research “Modular Investigations” brings Genesect
What kind of special researches are these? Professor Willow has found a trail of destruction caused by a Pokémon. Now it’s up to the trainers to find out who is responsible.
To do this, you need to complete several special researches that will eventually lead to an encounter with Genesect.
How long will the event last? The special research adventure will take place from Friday, March 20, 2020 at 8 AM to Thursday, March 26, 2020 at 10 PM (local time).
What do I need for the special research? To participate in the event, you will need a ticket. It costs 7.99 euros and includes, in addition to the special research, a number of tasks and rewards:
- The medal “Modular Investigations”.
- Research tasks related to Bug and Steel Pokémon.
- Research projects that lead to an encounter with Fermicula, which otherwise only appears in certain regions of the world.
- An avatar accessory.
- Various items, including 5 premium battle passes, 3 super incubators, 3 charge TMs, 3 quick TMs and 1 glacier lure module.
Will I get Genesect only through the event? For now, you can only obtain the new Pokémon through the special research for 7.99 euros. However, Genesect is expected to come to EX raids in April, as was the case with Regigigas.
A weekend around Genesect
What is this mysterious event? Simultaneously with the new special researches, the event “A weekend around Genesect” will also start.
At this event, you will have the following bonuses:
- Normal, Fire, Water, Electric, and Ice Pokémon will appear more frequently in the wild. You will also encounter Pokémon like Jigglypuff, Magnemite, Marill, Houndour, and Snubbull more often.
- Nincada appears in the wild or hatches from 5-km eggs. With a bit of luck, you might even catch or hatch a Shiny!
- Larvitar and Snorunt will hatch more frequently from 5-km eggs.
- In raid battles of levels 1 to 4, Bug and Steel Pokémon will appear.
Additionally, there will be double bonuses on catch stardust and hatch stardust.
How long will the event last? The event will take place from Friday, March 20, 2020 at 8 AM to Monday, March 23, 2020 at 10 PM (local time).

The coronavirus does not affect the event
What about the coronavirus? The current situation around the virus has already led to the cancellation of the Community Day with Abra, as well as the Safari Zone in St. Louis.
However, the two events surrounding Genesect will not be significantly affected in Germany. All tasks can be performed individually and at any location in the world. Additionally, the special researches have been extended by a few days to avoid large crowds.
However, different regulations apply to Japan, South Korea, and Italy. In these regions, the coronavirus is currently spreading particularly strongly. Therefore, measures have now been implemented to encourage playing at home.
