The next “secret weapon” is set to be a new Pokémon generation. Additionally, a battle mode for Pokémon GO is planned for 2018.
To keep the mobile game “Pokémon GO” interesting for many trainers, new updates must be regularly released. With new content such as events, new monsters, or new features like raids, the developers bring fresh air into the game. This way, new trainers are brought into the game and veterans are given more reasons to play.
The next major content update will reportedly be the third generation of Pokémon, according to John Hanke.
Generation 3 is coming “soon”
As reported by PokémonGOHub, John Hanke, the head of Niantic, recently spoke with the Taiwanese Business Weekly. There, he shared new information about upcoming features and the future of Pokémon GO in an interview.
Regarding the third generation, Hanke explained: “There are still many Pokémon that cannot be found in Pokémon GO so far. The next secret weapon will be the release of the next Pokémon generation. I hope that players can see it soon.“
It can be concluded that the third generation will soon appear as the next major content update in Pokémon GO. However, Hanke did not mention a specific date in the interview. So let’s wait and see what data miners will find in the game’s code soon, or whether Niantic will share official news with us shortly.
A list with the names of the 3rd generation has already been found in the code. Additionally, certain forms for two Pokémon of the 3rd gen have recently been added.
Battle mode in 2018
Niantic has already frequently mentioned a new battle mode in the past. The topic was discussed again in the aforementioned interview. However, the translation does not clarify whether it is indeed the PvP mode that many trainers are hoping for.
Hanke says: “We are working on developing a new battle mode. This is very interesting for us. We are trying to implement the mode for 2018.”
So after the big Gen-3 update, a battle mode is on the list. We hope to receive more information on this topic soon. A PvP mode, where trainers can directly compete against other trainers, has been requested since the release of the game in the summer of 2016.
