Pokémon GO has fixed a bug with the update 0.167.0 that many players liked to exploit, as it allowed them to save some time. Many trainers are now reacting angrily to this change.
This is the bug in question: Until now, players could skip the animation when opening gifts for months. They simply had to click the cross at the bottom right after opening, and the animation would be skipped.
With the new update, this is no longer possible. The cross is now darkened after pressing open and cannot be tapped anymore.
Trainers say: The wrong bugs are being fixed
This is how the change is received: A bug fix should ideally bring joy to fans, but this change is making trainers angry and sarcastic.
Reddit user “OhMyGoth1” ironically comments on the bug fix: “I am glad to see that they are still spending their time only fixing the useful bugs.”
The user Udub even makes suggestions on how to actually improve the gift system and clarifies: “Why is someone at Niantic working on such bugs? People like this bug!” He suggests several alternatives that Niantic should work on instead:
- Sort by friends who can still receive a gift
- Send gifts in bulk
- Open gifts in bulk
- Disable the animation when opening gifts or the option to skip the animation
Why this bug was so important: By skipping the gift animation, players can save about 5 seconds each time. If they open the maximum number of gifts at once, that’s a total of 100 seconds saved.
Even more important is this bug when opening gifts while catching Pokémon, because players quickly want to grab a 7 km egg. Naturally, they don’t want to waste time with gifts but rather catch Pokémon.
Will the next bug be addressed soon? Some trainers are afraid that after this bug is fixed, the catch trick will also be fixed.
With the catch trick, players can skip the animation when catching Pokémon, which saves a lot of time when catching many Pokémon.
Whether this bug will be next remains to be seen. The players’ reactions would certainly be much more intense than they are now.
