In Pokémon GO, the Mega Weeks are now starting. They bring 2 new Shinies and further Mega Evolutions. We will show you the bonuses in summary.
What is happening? At the release of the Mega Evolutions, it was announced that there will be 3 events waiting for you in September. Now the details are known.
The focus is of course on the Mega Evolutions, and you will unlock new Megas when you complete challenges.
Event for Mega-Raids brings Mega-Pidgeot
When does the event start? The event has already started! Since September 1st at 8:00 AM local time, you can benefit from the bonuses. The event runs until September 7th at 10:00 PM local time.
These are the bonuses: All trainers must complete a total of two million Mega Raids. Then Mega-Pidgeot will be unlocked in Pokémon GO. These additional bonuses are waiting for you:
- Mega Raids can be found more frequently in Pokémon GO
- The attack bonus from friends is increased in raids
- Field research focusing on raids can be found. Among other things, you will receive Mega Energy for Venusaur, Charizard, and Blastoise
- In the wild, the following Pokémon will appear more frequently: Abra, Magnemite, Pidgey, Rhyhorn, Tangela, Electabuzz, Omanyte, Aerodactyl, Murkrow, Treecko, Torchic, Roselia, and Lotad
Are there new Shinies here? No, there is no new Shiny this week. Niantic is promoting Shiny Lotad, but this Pokémon is already available as a Shiny in the game.
These are the quests: There are a total of 6 special field researches in the event. They are:
- Fight in a raid
- Reward: 500 stardust
- Win a raid
- Reward: Encounter with a Lotad (can be Shiny)
- Win 3 raids

Especially the quest with the Mega Energies is exciting. You should definitely have multiple quests before you fight against another trainer. This way, you can collect up to 15 Mega Energies at once.
Battle event for Mega-Houndoom
When does the event start? This begins on September 11th at 8:00 AM local time. The event ends on September 17th at 10:00 PM local time. So you have almost a whole week.
These are the bonuses: The focus here is on battles. All trainers must fight a total of 275 million times with Mega Evolutions in raids, against Team Rocket, or against other trainers. Once this is achieved, you will unlock Mega-Houndoom. Additional bonuses include:
- If you use Mega-Beedrill in battles, you will receive an additional CP boost for that Pokémon
- There will be field researches again that provide Mega Energies for Venusaur, Charizard, or Blastoise – generally, there are quests around battling
- Team Rocket will use different Pokémon during the event
- Bug Pokémon will appear more frequently in the wild. These include: Caterpie, Ledyba, Paras, Beedrill, Scyther, Pinsir, Ledyba, Spinarak, Wurmple, Burmy, and Sewaddle
- Shiny Ledyba will appear for the first time in Pokémon GO
What should one know about this? The event is a paradise for bug collectors! There are numerous Shiny checks, and with Shiny Ledyba, there is even a new Shiny to hunt.
Otherwise, you will primarily need to use your Mega Evolutions here. So save your energies for this event.
Buddies event for Mega-Gengar
When does the event start? From September 22nd at 8:00 AM local time until September 28th at 10:00 PM local time, everything is about your Mega Pokémon as buddies.
These are the bonuses: You need to use your Mega Pokémon as buddies. Additionally, there is a special research that will grant access to Mega-Gengar at the end. Other bonuses include:
- Mega Evolutions stay active longer. Instead of 4 hours, you can benefit from 12 hours of the evolution
- The item Snorlax will be active twice as long
- Large Pokémon will appear more frequently in the wild. These include: Lapras, Snorlax, Alolan Exeggcute, Doduo, Pinsir, Wailmer, Mantine, Porygon-Z, and Wigglytuff
- Shiny Doduo will appear for the first time in Pokémon GO
- Particularly large Pokémon will appear in raids
- In quests, there will be Mega Energies for Beedrill – as well as again for Venusaur, Charizard, and Blastoise
- A snapshot with your Mega Pokémon as a buddy will give you an encounter with a monster of the same species
What is exciting here? Here you have the opportunity to find some particularly rare monsters. Snorlax or Lapras usually appear rather rarely in the wild. You can take advantage of this during this event.
Otherwise, Shiny Doduo is the highlight. Shiny collectors can rejoice once again.
This event also announces the spooky time in Pokémon GO. The Halloween event has already been mentioned and will bring Mega-Gengar if you complete the special research.
Which event are you looking forward to the most? To be well prepared, you can currently benefit from a gift that Niantic offers you. This way, you will get almost free remote raid passes.
