Mass transfers for event Pokémon in Pokémon GO are finally allowed. A feature that players have been asking for years. Why was that so annoying?
What’s new? Niantic support officially announced that in the new update with version number 0.173.0 a major change is coming. A long-requested feature will be activated. They write:
Trainers, in our latest update (0.173.0) you can now transfer multiple Pokémon that are wearing costumes. Please note that Pokémon that are currently or were previously your buddy cannot be sent this way.

Why is this change so important?
This was annoying: If you participated in events like the recent Easter event 2020, you encountered monsters with costumes during your Pokémon hunt. This included Pikachu with a flower hat or Haspiror with a flower crown.

On one hand, players are happy about the catches. But if you have collected many of them and want to send them, you had to do it one by one for each costumed Pokémon – and that takes time. Additionally, each individual transfer had to be confirmed twice. In February, trainers were already vocal and demanded: “We want to send event Pokémon normally”
Pokémon without costumes could already be sent as mass transfers simultaneously long ago. This always made things faster.
Pokémon expert and MeinMMO author Noah Struthoff already explained that the Easter event was both cool and annoying.
What’s better now: With the new update, trainers can also send the event Pokémon as mass transfers. So if your collection is full of costumed specimens, you can now send them to the professor much faster and more easily upon request.
What the players say: Many trainers are very excited about this announcement. On Twitter, user @CoopsTheCasual shows the change in action and writes: “THANK.YOU.SO.MUCH. Honestly, this really is the best feature you’ve tweaked for a long time. Thanks again”

In the corresponding thread on reddit, players write:
- […] I still don’t understand why it wasn’t like this all the time […]”
- A player explains “It was removed because a bug displayed the costumed Pokémon as normal Pokémon in the Pokémon box, and people accidentally sent the costumed Pokémon […]”
- “I might now catch more than one costumed Pokémon”
- “After 4 years, technology for mass transfers has finally arrived”
Strong Pokémon without costumes can also be caught in raids. It won’t be long before you can raid from home. Niantic has now shown further details, on how these home raids will take place and what else will change.
