If you want to collect items and monsters diligently in Pokémon GO, you will need enough space in your storage. Niantic is now looking to increase these capacities for trainers. We at MeinMMO have looked into what the new limits will be and are sharing what the community thinks about the change.
What kind of spaces are we talking about? To catch monsters or collect items in Pokémon GO, you need free spaces in your Pokémon storage or item bag. However, some trainers are reaching their limits.
Both storages are not unlimited but have been capped by Niantic. So far, you could hold up to 4,500 Pokémon and 3,500 items in your bag. However, these capacities are set to be increased twice.
This is how much space you will get for monsters and items
As Niantic announced via their Twitter account on the night of November 16, the space for Pokémon and items will be increased. This increase will take place before the Community Day with Sheinux on November 21, 2021. Therefore, you can expand your space to a maximum of 5,000 Pokémon and 4,000 items.
Another increase will occur before the planned Community Day in December. This time, Niantic will raise the limit again by 500 spaces each, so you will be able to expand your storages to 5,500 Pokémon and 4,500 items.
How can you increase your spaces? To take advantage of the new limit, you must expand your item bag or Pokémon storage accordingly. However, this will cost you some coins. You will need to spend 200 PokéCoins for every additional 50 spaces.
To do this, go to your in-game shop and scroll down. Between the lure modules and stickers, you will find the “Upgrades” category, where an extension for the item bag and Pokémon storage will be displayed. By clicking on the corresponding icon, you can confirm your purchase, and your space will be increased.
What does the community say about the increase in spaces
The news about the increase in spaces for items and monsters has sparked very different reactions on social media.
Joy over the increase: Some trainers have already maximized their limit in the past, which is why they are happy about an increase.
- For example, Cai83 writes: “I just bought my last upgrade to maximize my storage for maybe a day before the new limits come. At least I know what I will spend my coins on in the foreseeable future!” (via reddit.com).
- Teban54 is also happy about the new limits: “I was worried that we wouldn’t get a storage increase for the rest of the year because the candy bonuses for the November CD really sounded like they wanted us to get rid of everything. Nice.” (via reddit.com).
- The trainer jostler57, however, catches himself hoarding and writes: “It’s still not going to be enough. Every time I catch myself hoarding more and more, and about a month after the new limit is released, I’m already at capacity.” (via reddit.com).
Criticism from trainers
Other trainers find the new increases somewhat unnecessary and would have preferred other bonuses from Niantic. Especially the coins that need to be paid for 50 new spaces are too expensive for some trainers.
- Kidtendo writes: “I wish they would just give players 100 Pokémon and 100 items for free after playing for a few years or earning a certain number of medals.” (via reddit.com).
- BazF91 calculates in the comments how much the new expansions will cost and writes: “Each upgrade of 50 costs 200 coins. They plan to upgrade each storage by 1000. 2000/50 = 40 purchases
40 * 200 = 8000 coins. Hopefully, there will be some deals!” (via reddit.com). - The trainer destinofiquenoite also wishes that Niantic had celebrated this news with a short-term, cheaper offer for the expansions (via reddit.com).
Trainers speculate about reasons
While some trainers are excited about the expansion, and others wish for a special offer in the shop, there are also early speculations about the reasons for this increase. Some players suspect that Niantic is adjusting this limit not just for fun but that trainers will likely need more space in the future.
Therefore, it is plausible that many trainers would welcome a release of new monsters.
- For instance, deadtoddler420 writes: “Generation 7 will surely come soon” (via reddit.com).
- And logosprim also believes: “They last did this with the release of a new generation and haven’t done it since.” (via reddit.com).
- A new generation is also suspected by aznknight613 who additionally speculates about why items are increased: “I can imagine that more hats are coming. But I suspect this might be in preparation for the release of a wave of Gen 7 Pokémon. Item storage seems to be a bigger deal, considering that it will increase three times in one year after not being increased for 2 years. Maybe a simpler way to obtain XL special candies is planned?” (via reddit.com).
What the real reasons for the expansion of storage space for monsters and items are, and whether Pokémon GO has special offers planned for the purchase of expansions, is not yet known. If Niantic comments on this, you will find out here on MeinMMO.
What do you think about the increase in your Pokémon and item storage? Will you take advantage of this or do you not need that much space? Do you think there will be new monsters in the game soon? Feel free to share your opinion on this in the comments on MeinMMO.
