The Mega Evolution in Pokémon GO is getting its long-awaited update. New features make Mega Evolution significantly more useful than before.
When is the change coming? As the developers announced in the current DevDiary, the new Mega Evolution update is already live in Australia and New Zealand. The worldwide release is supposed to follow “soon” – it shouldn’t be long before the changes take effect here with us as well.
The update involves significant changes in Mega Evolutions. Among other things, you’ll have easier access to Mega Pokémon and can look forward to additional bonuses.
We’ll show you what it looks like here.
What’s changing with Mega Evolutions
This is how Mega Evolutions will become more useful: The most important change is that you are no longer completely reliant on Mega Energy for Mega Evolutions. After the first Mega Evolution of a Pokémon, you can trigger the Mega Evolution for that Pokémon even without energy.
However, your Pokémon will need a certain recovery time after the Mega Evolution to perform another Mega Evolution without extra Mega Energy. This recovery phase can last several days.
You can shorten the recovery phase by using Mega Energy. However, the energy costs decrease in parallel to the cooldown: The less recovery time you have before the next evolution, the cheaper the costs will be.
In general, you will also gain easier access to Mega Energy, as most Mega Raids are supposed to become easier, so you can complete them with fewer trainers. This should be a great relief for everyone, who previously couldn’t gather enough trainers for Mega Raids.
Additionally, there is another feature: the “Mega Levels”.
Mega Levels make your Mega Pokémon even better
These are Mega Levels: When you Mega evolve your Pokémon, they level up in “Mega Level”. With each of these levels, bonuses for the Pokémon that it can use in its Mega form increase. As before, this includes the candy bonus for Pokémon that share a type with your Mega Pokémon, as well as the attack boost in raids. But there are also new bonuses:
- The recovery phases between Mega Evolutions shorten with increasing Mega Level.
- There are more XP for captured Pokémon that share a type with your Mega Pokémon.
- Increased chance of XL Pokémon for captured Pokémon that share a type with your Mega Pokémon.
The Pokéminers have (via reddit) already compiled an overview of the upcoming Mega Levels. According to the data miners, there will be the “Base” level, the “High” level, and the “Max Level”.
- The Base Level is unlocked with one Mega Evolution. The cooldown for the next free evolution lasts 7 days. The maximum energy for the evolution is supposed to be 41.
- The High Level is unlocked with 7 Mega Evolutions of your Pokémon. The cooldown lasts 5 days. The maximum energy is then only 21.
- The Max Level is obtained after 30 Mega Evolutions and brings a 3-day cooldown. The maximum energy for the evolution is supposed to be only 11.
What else is there? In the trailer for the new Mega Evolution, a new Mega Pokémon is also teased: Kangaskhan appears there at the end as a shadow. It is also emphasized that you can perform Mega Evolutions starting from the update even in waiting times, such as the raid lobby.
Additionally, the DevDiary hints at Mega forms of Latias and Latios at the end.
This corresponds to older findings that the first legendary Mega Evolutions could be coming soon.
