In Pokémon GO recently added 7 new Pokémon. Among them is Rabigator – the absolute favorite Pokémon of MeinMMO editor Noah Struthoff. However, the implementation in the game makes him lose all interest in it.
How Rabigator came to the game: The Pokémon was introduced with the 12-km eggs. Rabigator only appears if you get its pre-evolved form Ganovil from these eggs. In the wild, you cannot catch Ganovil or even Rabigator.
For me, this is a huge disappointment. I have been looking forward to Rabigator since the first Pokémon of the 5th generation. Now it is in the game, and I have to hatch eggs and hope for luck.
From Favorite Pokémon to Object of Hatred
Why is Rabigator my favorite Pokémon? It’s quite clear: It’s an alligator wearing sunglasses. How cool is that?
At least that’s what my 13-year-old self thought while I was binge-playing the Black Edition on my Nintendo DS for hours.
The love for Rabigator has remained. In every Pokémon game where Rabigator has been available, I have used it. In Pokémon GO, I had to wait over 4 years for the release of the Pokémon. Now, however, I am severely disappointed.
This is what Niantic did wrong for me: In my opinion, every Pokémon that can only be obtained from eggs is a real ordeal. You invest in incubators and then have to rely on luck. Maybe you’ll get the desired Pokémon, or you might just get a complete dud.
It is the same with Rabigator and its pre-evolution Ganovil. I might get lucky and receive it right in the first egg or be unlucky and hatch 20 Unratütox in a row.
After having played along with this system for a long time, I have now been out of it for several months. I no longer spend money on incubators, and the eggs are a disappointment for me. Niantic has repeatedly put Pokémon into eggs and mainly implemented them this way. Now my favorite Pokémon has also fallen victim to this.
This is particularly unfortunate: There are already initial analyses on the rarity in the eggs. While Skallyk and Gladiantri still hatch relatively frequently from the 12-km eggs, Ganovil is particularly rare. In 138 such eggs, analysts from TheSilphRoad only found 2 Ganovil. The chances seem extremely low.
This is generally what it’s about: Of course, my favorite Pokémon has been affected, which is personally very disappointing for me.
But it also shows the general problem with Pokémon GO: New Pokémon are added to the game very sparingly and usually through features like eggs. It’s a form of gambling that I find no fun at all.
Recently, there was a huge outcry about Shiny Kapuno. A new Shiny was introduced, and everyone wanted to have it. Niantic made it so rare in the eggs that hardly anyone had the chance to get it.
Now the same is happening with Ganovil. It is certainly only a matter of time before the next Pokémon follows the same path.
This is what other trainers think: I am not alone in my opinion. Especially the egg pool of the 12-km eggs upsets many players.
We summarize some voices from reddit :
- DarkotheDark1 ironically says: “I can’t wait to walk 12 kilometers to hatch an Absol or Unratütox”
- OberonCelebi writes: “It seems so strange to me that legendary Pokémon are easier to obtain in this game than regular Pokémon. I understand the need to throttle the content, but it just doesn’t feel right to me.”
- beckdawg19 claims: “I got three Giratina in just a few minutes via remote raid with friends. Meanwhile, I have to walk hundreds of kilometers and fight dozens of punks just to get a single Rabigator.”
- impressiverep reports: “I got 4 Absol. I hate that.”
What do you think? Do you agree with the implementation of Rabigator and the other new Pokémon? Or would you rather see them in the wild?
There are also other criticisms of the 12-km eggs. Many trainers find the release during Corona time inappropriate:
