In Pokémon GO there are new field research tasks corresponding to the beginning of October. We will show you all the quests and tell you which ones you should undertake.
What’s new: At the start of each month, there are new field research tasks in Pokémon GO. In October, there are new quests, and this time they mainly revolve around ghost-type Pokémon.
This is fitting because at the end of the month it will get spooky again in Pokémon GO as the Halloween event approaches. It could be the big highlight in 2020.
All Field Research in October 2020
Where does the information come from? Dedicated players have compiled tasks at TheSilphRoad. However, keep in mind that there might still be some rare tasks missing.
Additionally, there are quests corresponding to events that are not listed here. These are only valid during the event period. The quests mentioned here are available throughout the entire month of October.
Quests with Throws
- Land 5 great curveball throws in a row
- Reward: encounter with a Pandir #2*
- Land 5 good throws
- Reward: encounter with a Voltoball*
- Land 3 great throws
- Reward: encounter with a Nebulak*, Anorith* or Liliep*
- Land 3 great throws in a row
- Reward: encounter with an Onix*
- Land 3 fantastic throws in a row
- Reward: encounter with a Larvitar*
A strong quest here is again the task around Pandir. It is among the rarest Shinies in the game and you should ideally always complete this quest.
Otherwise, the Voltoball task remains strong. It is quick to complete, and Voltoball is also a rare Shiny. So, you should take on the field research.
Quests with Catching
- Catch 3 Pokémon with weather boost
- Reward: encounter with a Driftlon*
- Catch 3 ghost-type Pokémon
- Reward: encounter with a Zwirrlicht*
- Use 5 berries while catching Pokémon
- Reward: encounter with a Kramurx*
- Catch a dragon-type Pokémon
- Reward: encounter with a Dratini*
- Catch 5 Pokémon with weather boost
- Reward: encounter with a Quapsel* or Vulpix
- Catch 10 Pokémon
- Reward: encounter with a Karpador*
- Catch 10 different species of Pokémon
- Reward: 2 special candies
The new tasks involving Driftlon and Zwirrlicht are useful. These Pokémon are likely to appear more frequently during the Halloween event, but they are rare outside of events. Both monsters can be Shiny, so you can hope for rare Shinies.
Quests with Battles
- Win a raid
- Reward: encounter with a Lichtel
- Defeat 2 Team GO Rocket grunts
- Reward: encounter with a Zobiris*
- Win 5 raids
- Reward: encounter with an Aerodactyl*
- Win a level 3 raid or higher
- Reward: encounter with a Kabuto* or Amonitas*
Some quests related to battling have not been available since the Corona period.
A really good task is the quest for Lichtel. The evolution Skelabra is among the best attackers of ghost and fire type, and with this quest, you can hope for a good specimen.
Quests with Eggs
- Hatch an egg
- Reward: encounter with a Makabaja*
You can easily hatch eggs from home. We provide tips on how to hatch them.
Whoever hatches an egg gets a chance at a long-lost Pokémon! Makabaja celebrated its release at Halloween 2019 and has been missing since then. Now it celebrates its comeback, and you have the chance for the Shiny.

- Reward: encounter with an Alolan Rattata*
- Give your buddy 3 snacks
- Reward: encounter with a Skunkapuh
- Trade a Pokémon
- Reward: encounter with a Traunfugil*
- Evolve a Pokémon
- Reward: encounter with an Alpollo or Evoli*
- Earn 5 hearts with your buddy
- Reward: 2 silver Pinap berries
- Use 5 power-ups on Pokémon
- Reward: encounter with a Squirtle*, Bulbasaur* or Charmander*
- Earn 3 candies by walking with your buddy
- Reward: encounter with a Flunschlik
What about the Pandir form? Pandir will continue to celebrate form #2 this month. This form was also present last month. However, anyone who does not have a Shiny of this yet can try their luck again this month.
How long will the tasks remain? These quests typically stay active for a month. There are some tasks from the list that have remained exactly the same for months – these will likely still be around in November.
Otherwise, there will likely be a new batch of quests on November 1st at 10:00 PM German time.
Research Breakthrough in October
What do you get in the Research Breakthrough? In October, you will receive Ninjatom from the breakthrough. You can find all the info about the new breakthrough in our event overview for the month of October.
Is the breakthrough worth it? Ninjatom is useful for the Pokédex entry. After all, this Pokémon is only available during special events and especially newcomers might still need this monster.
