In Pokémon GO there was a change in field research on December 1st. Until the end of the year, you will find new quests. We will show you all the tasks and tell you which ones are worth it.
What’s new: Amidst all the hype around level 50 and the first Pokémon from Generation 6, there was also an adjustment in field research. Since December 1st at 10:00 PM German time, there are new quests.
The tasks mainly revolve around the Ice and Fire types. This fits the current season, as Ice Pokémon appear mainly here and Fire Pokémon mainly appear in the southern hemisphere.
All field research in December 2020
Where do the quests come from? Diligent trainers have compiled all quests on TheSilphRoad . However, please note that particularly rare tasks may still be missing.
In addition, there are events throughout the month that also bring special quests. This includes the event for Generation 6. We will not list these tasks here.
Quest with throws
- Land 5 great curveball throws in a row
- Reward: Encounter with a Pandir #4*
- Land 5 good throws
- Reward: Encounter with a Voltobal*
- Land 3 great throws
- Reward: Encounter with a Nebulak*, Anorith* or Liliep*
- Land 3 great throws in a row
- Reward: Encounter with an Onix*
- Land 3 fabulous throws in a row
- Reward: Encounter with a Larvitar* or Kaumalat*
You should take the task around Pandir. It is rare and a bit tricky, but also worthwhile. After all, Pandir is among the rarest Shinys in the game.
The Voltobal quest is quick to complete and yields a Shiny that many trainers surely still lack.
Moreover, the field research with fabulous throws is strong. There you could get Kaumalat, which is certainly a very rare Pokémon. Additionally, it can be Shiny.
All Pokémon marked with a * can appear as Shiny.
Quest with catching
- Catch 3 Fire-type Pokémon
- Reward: Encounter with a Feurigel* or Flemmli*
- Use 5 berries when catching Pokémon
- Reward: Encounter with a Ponita*
- Catch a Dragon-type Pokémon
- Reward: Encounter with a Dratini*
- Catch 5 Pokémon with weather boost
- Reward: Encounter with a Quapsel*, Vulpix* or Shnebedeck*
- Catch 10 Pokémon
- Reward: Encounter with a Karpador*
- Catch 5 different Ice-type Pokémon
- Reward: 2 special candies
The task “Catch 5 Pokémon with weather boost” is quick to complete and brings 3 possible Shinys with it. So it’s worth it if you don’t already own these Shinys.
Quest with battles
- Win 2 raids
- Reward: Encounter with an Alola Sandan*
- Defeat 2 Team GO Rocket Grunts
- Reward: Encounter with a Vulpix*
- Win 5 raids
- Reward: Encounter with an Aerodactyl*
- Win a level 3 raid or higher
- Reward: Encounter with a Kabuto* or Amonitas*
Some quests related to battling have not been available since the Corona period.
The task around Alola Sandan is worthwhile. The Pokémon is very rare in the wild. But keep in mind that you have to do at least 2 raids for that.
Quest with eggs
- Hatch an egg
- Reward: Encounter with a Sniebel
You can easily hatch eggs from home. We give you tips on how to hatch successfully.
Other quests
- Send 3 gifts
- Reward: Encounter with a Hunduster*
- Give your buddy 3 snacks
- Reward: Encounter with a Seemops
- Trade a Pokémon
- Reward: Encounter with a Schneppke*
- Develop a Pokémon
- Reward: Encounter with a Flamara or Evoli*
- Earn 5 hearts with your buddy
- Reward: 2 silver Nanab berries
- Reward: Encounter with a Fukano*
- Use 5 power-ups on Pokémon
- Reward: Encounter with Schiggy*, Bisasam* or Glumanda*
- Earn 3 candies while walking with your buddy
- Reward: Encounter with a Flunschlik
The task “Send 3 gifts” is quite quickly resolved and brings you a Hunduster, a Pokémon that is rather rare in Germany. If you lack the Shiny, you should complete the task.
There is also the Fukano quest revolving around buddy hearts. You could pick these up multiple times and then solve them together. Fukano is also rather rare in the wild.
What you should know about the Pandir form: This month, the Pandir form #4 is still available. So it hasn’t changed.
How long will the quests be available? It will likely be the last quest change of this year. So far, quests have always been active for a month. A change would therefore be conceivable on January 1st.
However, now there are the seasons, and it is possible that field research will only change when the seasons change. That would happen at the beginning of March.
Research breakthrough in December
What is available in the research breakthrough? This month there are 2 Pokémon in the research breakthrough: Lapras and Flampion. Both Pokémon will be available until January 1, 2021.
