Last weekend the Pokémon GO Fest 2022 took place. For many, this is an opportunity to catch the coveted Shinys. After the event, we at MeinMMO look at the reactions: Some German trainers are very disappointed, others are quite relieved. How one feels probably depends on whether one bought a ticket for €17 or not. And from the luck with the Shinys.
When did the event take place?
- The event ran for 8 hours each day from 10 AM to 6 PM on June 4th and 5th.
- The Pokémon GO Fest is considered one of the highlights of every year in Pokémon GO.
Many bought a ticket for the GO Fest because they wanted Shinys
What’s the deal with the ticket? The GO Fest can be attended for free, but it is then not possible to take advantage of all the bonuses.
Those who want to make the most of the event must purchase a ticket for about €17. This ticket includes, among other things, an increased chance of catching a Shiny. These are “shiny” and particularly coveted Pokémon.
Without ticket
– Pikachu in Shaymin costume in the wild and 1-star raids
– Milza (also for the first time as a Shiny) in the 1-star raids
– Photobombs in snapshots
– posted photos under #PokemonGOFest2022 have a chance to be shared in the Today section
– new avatar items
– small special research on Sunday
– global challenges on Sunday
With ticket
– up to 9 free raid passes when spinning at gyms
– event stickers from gifts and at PokéStops
– free access to the conclusion event in August
– global challenges for further bonuses on Saturday
– special research on Shaymin (Land Form)
– collector challenges
– additional special research on Sunday
– encounter Team GO Rocket from balloons more frequently
– Team Rocket grunts bring 2 mysterious components
– exclusive spawns through incense
– increased Shiny chance
What are the reactions? For many players, it strongly depends on two factors how they perceived the Pokémon GO Fest 2022:
- Did they buy a ticket for €17 or not?
- How many Shiny Pokémon did they catch – and how many of those were “new”?
“Ticket not worth it” – 83% of readers buy ticket
These people tend to be more satisfied: After the GO Fest, there are always comments from players who feel confirmed in their decision not to buy a ticket.
At the same time, many regret having purchased a ticket and vow never to do so again. Especially many “Shiny hunters” apparently hardly noticed the increased drop chance.
In our highly frequented survey on MeinMMO, we saw that most of the participants in the survey bought a ticket:
- Out of 5295, 4,383 got a ticket – close to 83%.
- But the majority of ticket buyers, 2,700 people, caught only between 0 and 6 Shinys.
- Only a vanishingly small number of 400 trainers can be satisfied with a yield of over 21 Shinys: That’s only 9% of all ticket buyers.
Trainers with Shiny bad luck complain about the fest as “one big scam”
The Shiny yield is seen by many as too low for their effort:
- “I find it very unfortunate: After the first stage, I got 2 Shinys and the next day again 2, and one of them was one I already had. I caught Milza over 20 times and got one Shiny – and that with a ticket.”
- A user from MeinMMO sees it particularly critically: “The fest was one big scam! Luring in players with an increased Shiny rate to buy an overpriced ticket.”
- Even players with relatively much success are reporting because their expectations weren’t met: “Unbelievable … I’m really disappointed […] of my 7 wild Shinys, 6 were old.”
Who seems satisfied with the fest? Trainers who consciously did not buy a ticket seem to be satisfied with their decision now:
- A MeinMMO reader criticizes Niantic for being so non-transparent and not clearly communicating the Shiny rate. Until that changes, he wants to refrain from buying a ticket.
- Reader “Ascy” says:
I didn’t buy the ticket […] I managed to catch 8 in total that weekend and am satisfied with that. The weekend itself was cohesive, I got to meet some new people, the research was very interesting and there were some Pokémon to catch that are otherwise rare or not catchable at all.
“Rip to the others”
There are also players who bought a ticket and still felt like they got their money’s worth, but they are relatively rare.
A MeinMMO reader says: “Fortunately, I got 2 Milza in Shiny, one of them a lucky 98%. Rip to the others”
Overall, the mood expressed in the comments on MeinMMO seems to reflect the sentiment of trainers worldwide: Those who bought a ticket in the expectation of fully utilizing the “high Shiny bonus” are rather disappointed. The talk is even of a “terrible fest.”
