As Niantic announced on Twitter, the field research tasks will change next month.
What tasks can you expect? Starting from the first of May at 10:00 PM, an additional series of tasks as field research quests will begin. These tasks focus on Flying and Electric-type Pokémon. Furthermore, the game challenges your trainer skill in Pokémon GO. What this exactly means is unclear. Practice your PokéBall throws diligently.
What will the new breakthrough reward be? Although Niantic did not say it literally, the teaser image for the new research clearly shows Zapdos. This makes sense, as in April trainers received an encounter with Lavados for a research breakthrough. Thus, the legendary trio will gradually be completed.

How often does the field research reward rotate? It is likely that the field research reward will now change monthly. At least we expect after Lavados in April, Zapdos in May, and finally Articuno in June. Whether it will continue with legendary Pokémon or if other special rare monsters will appear as rewards is still unclear.
