The “Ultra Bonus” in Pokémon GO has been partially announced, and some fans have already come up with a crazy theory about what could happen. We show you the hint.
What is it about? Niantic revealed the first parts of the Ultra Bonus in September. In this announcement, a player found an interesting detail that points to Generation 5.
You need to have a lot of faith, and it’s not recognizable at first glance, but the hint would indeed make sense.

What was found? If you take a closer look at the announcement, you will find in the bonuses from week 3 the word “Unova,” which is the region of Generation 5.
The first letter of each of the 5 sentences forms exactly this word.
A relevant thread on Reddit has already received 4000 upvotes. So it seems there are many agreements.
Could there actually be something behind it? If you look at the sentences, it could indeed be the case. Niantic uses interesting words so that the starting letters make sense.
They are writing about “Unusual Pokémon”, which is a very broad term and usually not used for describing Pokémon.
The same applies to the “noteworthy opponents” in sentence 2. They could have chosen better words, but they decided on the word “Noteworthy.”
In line with all these words, there is the announcement only available in a few languages. For example, there is no German version at all.
Regardless of the speculation around a strange choice of words, there are also some facts about Generation 5:
- Already during the celebration of the 3rd anniversary of Pokémon GO, the three starter Pokémon of Generation 5 were already shown by Niantic.
- The 4th generation was introduced in October of the previous year, so around the same time.
- The 4th generation has already been nearly fully released. Only a few special Pokémon are still missing, which can definitely be released separately. The major waves of Gen 4 are over.
This is what to consider regarding the hint: Despite all the speculation, this is just a hint and nothing official from Niantic.
