YouTuber Desmond “Etika” Amofah tragically passed away in 2019. His fans are now creating a memorial for him in Pokémon GO as he was said to love the AR game.
This is Etika: The YouTuber was especially popular in America. He mainly played Nintendo games. Then he posted a video in which he expressed suicidal thoughts. In early 2019, the YouTuber suddenly disappeared. A short time later, Etika was found dead in a river in New York.
The YouTube star was also known for liking Pokémon GO. That’s why many of his fans made sure that he now receives a memorial in the AR game.
New PokéStop shows Etika
This is what happened: At the end of 2019, a fan in New York, Etika’s hometown, created a large mural of Etika on a wall. This image is now a PokéStop in Pokémon GO.
One of the reasons for this was YouTuber Reversal. He told Polygon that he and Etika were friends and that the deceased YouTuber loved Pokémon GO. Therefore, Reversal called on his community to submit Etika’s artwork as a PokéStop. This works through Niantic Wayfarer.
Just a few months after this call, the PokéStop appeared in the game. On Twitter, Reversal thanked the helpful community from New York.
Fans are excited: On Twitter, the excitement is great about this PokéStop. An acquaintance of Etika thanked Reversal for his call and wrote that she even had to hold back her tears.
Numerous other fans express their support and are delighted with the memorial in the game.
How can you create such PokéStops? Since June 2019, you can make your own suggestions for PokéStops in Pokémon GO, at least in Germany. Since the introduction of Niantic Wayfarer at the end of 2019, these suggestions can be made globally and even confirmed or rejected.
If enough fans of Etika confirm the PokéStop suggestion, it will also necessarily be implemented in the game. This has also happened after some time.
