When does the event take place? Tonight at 6 PM it begins. Then a Mewtwo will appear at all gyms where no other raid is ongoing. You can battle against Mewtwo for one hour.
It is the make-up hour after the previous event was canceled due to technical problems. So this is for now the last chance to catch Mewtwo in regular raids.
Mewtwo Raid Hour tonight – All Information
What makes the Raid Hour special: After Mewtwo was in regular raids for a week thanks to the Ultra Bonus, it disappeared in September and was replaced by Giratina. Now it returns once for the Raid Hour. Otherwise, you can only encounter Mewtwo in EX-Raids.
So if you want another chance to get 10 or more Mewtwo in a day, make sure to take advantage of the Raid Hour tonight.
How do I counter Mewtwo? The Psychic Pokémon has 3 weaknesses: Ghost, Dark, and Bug. The best counters are Giratina, Gengar, and Mewtwo with Shadow Ball.
You can easily defeat Mewtwo with four players. In a trio, it’s only possible with a very strong team. For the Raid Hour, we recommend a group size of about 6 players.
What attacks does Mewtwo learn? The legendary Pokémon can learn the move Psycho Cut again during the Raid Hour. This attack makes it the best Psychic attacker in the game by far and is extremely powerful.
Some Mewtwo raids also hatch shortly after 6 PM. According to reports from players, these will have the attack Shadow Ball, which is otherwise only available in EX-Raids.

Here’s something for free: Due to the technical problems last time, Niantic is compensating all players with two free raid passes.
You can use up to 4 free passes today. To do this, you need to have saved the pass from yesterday and not completed any other raid before the Raid Hour. Then you’ll have the 2 free and the daily passes from today and yesterday.
How to make the most of such an event? The Raid Hour with Mewtwo is worth it if you maximize your time. Here are some tips:
- Have a fixed raid group beforehand and meet a few minutes before 6 PM at a starting point
- Your raid route should ideally pass by many gyms that are close together
- Once you are in battle, you can keep walking from the gym. So you can catch and fight while walking to the next gym
- Don’t have huge raid groups, as they often slow things down. Aim for 6-8 players so that the organization remains manageable.
What should you know about Shiny Mewtwo? In the Raid Hour, you also have a chance for Shiny Mewtwo. The probability is 1 in 19, as usual with legendary Pokémon.
