In Pokémon GO, January 2021 kicks off with numerous events. Details about Spotlight Hours, Raid Bosses, and the New Year’s event have been announced.
What’s new: The new year in Pokémon GO starts again with numerous events. Niantic has revealed the first celebrations for 2021.
After the Community Day for January is already set, there are now also details on additional events. Here’s an overview for you.
6 Raid Bosses in January 2021
After having Kyurem in Level 5 Raids for over a month in December, there is now a bit more variety. A total of 6 legendary or mythical Pokémon have been announced. These include:
- Ho-Oh: January 1 at 10:00 PM to January 5 at 10:00 AM
- Genesect with Flame Module: January 5 at 10:00 AM to January 12 at 10:00 AM
- Heatran: January 12 at 10:00 AM to January 19 at 10:00 AM
- Kyogre and Groudon: January 19 at 10:00 AM to January 26 at 10:00 AM
- Surprise Pokémon: From January 26 at 10:00 AM until unknown
The Level 5 Raids will switch weekly, bringing a lot of rotation to the raid system.
Genesect will be interesting. The Pokémon has been available without a special module until now. It will now carry the Flame Module, allowing it to use Fire attacks.
Changes in Mega Raids: Mega Blastoise returns to raids in January. Additionally, an unknown Mega Pokémon will celebrate its debut on January 19. Further details will be shared later.
All Spotlight Hours in January 2021
What is a Spotlight Hour? This event takes place every Tuesday in Pokémon GO and highlights a Pokémon for one hour.
Also in January 2021, there will be such an event every Tuesday. Each week features a different exciting Pokémon to catch.
Tuesday, January 5
What bonuses are there? The first Spotlight Hour in January focuses on Yorkleff. This dog Pokémon is already available as Shiny, and during the event, there will be double Stardust for catching Pokémon.
Tuesday, January 12
What bonuses are there? Here you can catch Driftloon everywhere. This ghost Pokémon is already available as Shiny. Additionally, there will be double XP for catching Pokémon during the event.
Tuesday, January 19
What bonuses are there? In the 3rd Spotlight Hour in January, Knilz is in the spotlight. This Pokémon is currently not available as Shiny. Additionally, you will receive double candies for catching Pokémon.
Tuesday, January 26
What bonuses are there? In the last hour of January, everything revolves around Phanpy. This monster is also not yet available as Shiny. As a bonus, there will be double candies for transferring Pokémon.
Research Breakthrough in January 2021
What’s in the research breakthrough: From January 1 at 10:00 PM, you can obtain Chansey in the research breakthrough. This pink Pokémon can also be encountered as Shiny and will be available until February 1 at 10:00 PM.
You receive the research breakthrough after completing field research on a total of 7 days.
New Year’s Event to Kickstart 2021
When does the event run? It’s the first event of the new year! It starts on December 31 at 10:00 PM and ends on January 4 at 10:00 PM.
These are the bonuses: The event is intended to celebrate the new year, and some Pokémon will therefore wear a party hat. We list all bonuses here for you:
- Double candies and Stardust on hatched eggs
- Halved hatch distance for eggs
- Blubas with 2020 glasses is available and evolves into Blubras with 2021 glasses
- Pichu, Pikachu, and Raichu with New Year hats are available
- Isso hatches with Pichu from 2 km eggs
- Rattikarl, Woingenau, and Waumpel with party hats are available in Level 1 Raids
- Evoli with party hat can be obtained through quests
- New avatar clothing
In the event, you will again meet a lot of costumed Pokémon. Such monsters can already be found in the Christmas event.
