The very first Pokémon games were released on February 27 in Japan, which is why this day is Pokémon Day. This event will also be celebrated with the trainers in Pokémon GO, offering special Pikachu to catch.
Pikachu will kick off February 26 at 10:00 PM the Pokémon Day in Pokémon GO. Until March 6 at 10:00 PM, every wild Pikachu that you encounter will wear a festive party hat. If you catch a wild Pikachu during this time, it will keep this party hat forever. Since it is currently unclear whether the same event will take place next year, collectors of rare Pokémon should definitely keep an eye out for Pikachu starting February 26.
There may also be an increased chance of wild Pikachu during the event. This will be confirmed once Niantic officially comments on this event.
Recently, one could catch a Christmas Pikachu that was equipped with a Christmas hat. Events like this could occur more frequently in the future to strengthen one’s collection with special Pokémon.
