In Pokémon GO there is an event celebrating the Chinese New Year. This event brings numerous bonuses, a new field research task, and Shiny Spoink. We show you everything you need to know.
Currently, the Chinese New Year is being celebrated, and Pokémon GO is also participating in the festivities. They are hosting an event that lasts over a week and brings Shiny Spoink into the game.
There is also a chance for increased lucky Pokémon and guaranteed double experience points.
This is how the Lunar New Year event works
How long does the event last? Until February 13, the event around the Chinese New Year runs. It ends at 10 PM, and the event Pokémon will disappear again.
What are the bonuses?
- Double experience points for catching and evolving Pokémon

- Increased spawn rate of Pokémon that fit the Chinese New Year

What’s special about the experience points: The event brings double experience points for evolving, which haven’t been available for months. So, sit down with a Lucky Egg for half an hour and evolve. If you do it right, you can get up to 140,000 XP.
There are also double XP for catching Pokémon. With the best possible throw (excellent, curve, first time), you can get up to 1040 experience points.
Which Pokémon is the event about? The event Pokémon represent all the animals of the Chinese calendar. These include:

What’s in the field research “Trade 10 Pokémon with a Friend”
This is also new: There is a new field research related to the event. The task “Trade 10 Pokémon with a Friend” gives you an encounter with Panflam.
Thus, trading is worth it twice. On the one hand, you can complete this quest, and on the other, you have the chance for increased lucky Pokémon.
Shiny Spoink and Groink in the game
There are numerous chances for shinies in the event. For the first time, you have the chance to get Shiny Spoink and Groink.
In addition to these new shinies, you also have the chance to find a shiny among other event Pokémon. Rapidash, Dratini, Ampharos, and Rockruff can all also appear in their shiny form. It is therefore ideal for shiny hunters.
