Reports from “Lugia” and Mewtwo are spreading in social Pokémon GO networks. Enjoy these reports with caution or humor.
Alleged announcements or reports from legendary Pokémon like Mewtwo or “Lugia” are not official. These are partly unconfirmed leaks based on supposed insider information. Other reports mock these leaks and the attention they attract, and should be understood as “satire”.
So be careful which reports you believe and which ones you should take a second look at.
Mewtwo – Legendary Pokémon
Pokémon GO is celebrating its first birthday with a arena overhaul, new features in the game, and controversial anniversary boxes. For this special birthday, we can expect much more in the coming weeks. At least that’s what the developer Niantic says. These heightened expectations are being used by websites to spread false information.
Many trainers are eagerly waiting for the legendary Pokémon in Pokémon GO that were promised for summer 2017. If a website claims, “We know on which day legendary Pokémon like Mewtwo will arrive,” then this news receives a lot of attention. Fans spread the news without comment on social media, and the creators of the fake news are happy about the thousands of clicks on their website.
On an Argentinian Pokémon GO website, there has recently been a report stating that legendary Pokémon like Mewtwo and others are supposed to appear on July 22 at 1:00 PM PDT (the same day the Pokémon GO Fest in Chicago takes place).
Furthermore, the report states that special Squirtle with sunglasses from the Squirtle Squad will be temporarily available in the game and that the game marks your Pokémon green or red based on their IV ratings. This IV detection is particularly questionable because Niantic has never talked about these values or hinted at anything in that direction.
Since the website “Pokemongolive.com.ar” is named similarly to the official website “Pokemongolive.com”, players believe that the site is “real” and that the information is therefore also “real”. However, this is a fan site that believed these pieces of information were real. Meanwhile, the post has been updated, and the site claims that it did not verify the sources enough.
It is clear that the legendary Pokémon will come in summer. When that will be is not officially confirmed yet.
“Lugia” – Super Mario meets gaming trend and Pokémon GO
Another news about legendary creatures is circulating, among others, in our Pokémon GO Facebook group. There is talk of a legendary event where you can catch the Pokémon “Lugia”. An apparently intentional misspelling (actually “Lugia”), because this news comes from Spieletrend and pokes fun at the other current “leaks”.
In the latest Pokémon GO video on the Spieletrend YouTube channel , it is mentioned how easy it is to create such fake news and how quickly they can circulate in Facebook groups. Here, you are also reminded to closely examine where you get your Pokémon GO information from and whether you can trust this content.
So far, there is no official announcement regarding an exact start date for legendary Pokémon such as Mewtwo, Ho-oh, Lugia, and others. We will keep you updated on this topic.
