In Pokémon GO, you can earn up to 50,000 Stardust extra today, on May 12th. This works thanks to rewards for Season 1 of the PvP League.
Here’s how to get the extra Stardust: You need to click on the PvP League. There, you can collect the rewards for your rank since last night, and for the first time, you can also multiply these rewards with a Star Piece.
Activate the Star Piece before you click on the PvP League. As soon as you click on it, you must also collect the reward. If you haven’t activated a Star Piece at that time, there won’t be any extra Stardust.
The rewards for Season 1 are actually available this late because the start of Season 2 has been postponed.
When is it worth earning extra Stardust?
This is how much dust you can get: It becomes really worth it starting from rank 7. There, you will receive 20,000 Stardust and an additional 10,000 Stardust if you activate a Star Piece.

- Rank 7: 2 Fast TMs, 2 Charged TMs, 1 Elite Charged TM, 1 Raid Pass, 20,000 Stardust
- Rank 8: 2 Fast TMs, 3 Charged TMs, 1 Elite Charged TM, 1 Raid Pass, 30,000 Stardust
- Rank 9: 3 Fast TMs, 3 Charged TMs, 1 Elite Charged TM, 1 Raid Pass, 50,000 Stardust
- Rank 10: 3 Fast TMs, 5 Charged TMs, 1 Elite Charged TM, 1 Raid Pass, 100,000 Stardust
This means that you can get 150,000 Stardust at rank 10 if you activate a Star Piece. So, you get an additional 50,000 Stardust if you use the Star Piece beforehand.
Is it worth it for lower ranks? In principle, it doesn’t matter what rank you are. The Star Piece always gives you more dust, and you have to weigh whether it’s worth using such an item for, for example, 2,500 additional dust (as in rank 4).
You can also combine the reward with your daily round. If you’re already running for at least half an hour, then use a Star Piece, collect the PvP reward, and catch Pokémon afterward. Currently, there is double Stardust for catching Pokémon thanks to the Johto event. So, a Star Piece is definitely worth it.
Can you collect the reward later? In principle, you can also collect the reward for Season 1 later. However, you just can’t battle in the league beforehand. So, if someone can forgo the PvP League for a few days, they can also collect the reward after a few days.
