In the current research breakthrough in August 2020 in Pokémon GO, you can secure the monster Zurrokex. It flies under the radar for some players – but it’s really useful.
This is how the research breakthrough works: To achieve a research breakthrough in Pokémon GO, players must collect seven stamps. These stamps are awarded for completing field research tasks. However, players can only earn one stamp per day – ideally, it takes a week to achieve the breakthrough.
Then you can look forward to the research breakthrough, which brings you an encounter with a specific Pokémon. This month, from August 1 to September 1, 2020, it’s Zurrokex. And you definitely shouldn’t miss it.
Zurrokex is rare – and useful in PvP
Zurrokex is that rare: If you don’t find a Zurrokex in your Pokémon collection, you might not be a big PvP fan. Because: This monster has usually only been available as a reward from the battle league (as it is also in the newly started Season 3).
Apart from the battle league, there was also a Smoke Day in May, where Zurrokex was obtainable. However, those who missed it or had no luck with the spawns had to rely on the PvP league to get the rare Zurrokex. And that makes sense.
This is how strong Zurrokex is: The fact that Zurrokex has been tied to the league is probably no coincidence – after all, it’s quite useful there. That is, its evolution Irokex.
Irokex may fly under the radar for some players, but it is a useful Dark/Fighting-type monster in PvP. In the Super League ranking of PvPoke, based on battle simulations, Irokex ranks 27th among the best monsters overall. It is listed as a good counter against popular PvP monsters such as Swampert, Alolan Marowak, Umbreon, or Galarian Lickilicky. However, it has problems against top-tier monsters like Azumarill, Registeel, or Panzaeron (via PvPoke).
It can learn, for example, the fast move Counter and the charged moves Power-Up Punch and Foul Play. Both charges quickly, and Power-Up Punch increases Irokex’s attack. A combination that takes down Rocket Boss Giovanni as well.
So, if you’re looking for another option in PvP, you shouldn’t miss the research breakthrough. And if you don’t have Zurrokex and Irokex in your Pokédex, then definitely not.
In addition to the Zurrokex breakthrough, August offers a lot of other events, from Community Day to Spotlight Hour. Here you can find an overview of all Pokémon events in August 2020.
