In Pokémon GO there was a massive change to remote raids last year. While the community criticizes the adjustment, Niantic stands behind the change.
What are remote raid passes? With remote raid passes, you can participate in raids in Pokémon GO without needing to be on-site. This means you can comfortably participate in raids from home, for example. Remote raid passes were introduced at the beginning of Corona.
Over time, there have been 2 price changes to the remote raid passes. Initially, you could buy a single pass for 100 PokéCoins and a 3-pack for 250 PokéCoins, but since the last change, the prices for a pass are now 195 PokéCoins and the 3-pack is 525 PokéCoins.
Additionally, the number of possible remote raids has been limited to 5 remote raids per day since the last adjustment.
As it has now been revealed in an interview, Niantic has no plans to change these adjustments. Because they achieve exactly what Niantic hoped for.
Super painful
, but right
What does Niantic say about it? Michael Steranka, the Director Live Game
for Pokémon GO, commented on the remote raids during an interview on dotesports.com.
He states that the adjustment of remote raids was exactly right and had the impact that Niantic desired. He notes:
I have to say that what we’ve observed after this change is exactly what we hoped for. We’ve seen more personal communities coming together again… These local communities are blossoming in a way we haven’t seen since pre-pandemic times.
That people go out and meet new people while playing Pokémon GO is Niantic’s goal, Steranka mentioned as well.
He personally finds the change to be super painful
, as he himself uses many remote raids, but it was definitely the right decision in hindsight
.
What does the community say about it? Looking at the comments under the latest posts of Pokémon GO on X, there are consistently remarks about the changes to the raid passes.
The price of the remote raid pass must be permanently reduced to a reasonable amount and the daily limit increased
, is a comment on XRevert the changes to the avatar and remote raids
, demands another commenter on XPrice reduction for remote raids please
, wishes another commenter on X
Despite many trainers wishing for the original prices for remote raid passes, Niantic seems to be sticking to the current price. An adjustment back to the original price level seems unrealistic in the foreseeable future.
What do you think about this? Are you participating more in local raids since the remote raids became more expensive? Have you perhaps even stopped doing remote raids altogether? Feel free to share your opinion in the comments. By the way, regarding raids: Pokémon GO is bringing back the strongest Pokémon, but it won’t be easy.
