The egg-hatching distance in Pokémon GO has surprisingly been reduced to 1/4. When you hatch eggs, it works super fast in the coming days. But why is there this bonus?
What kind of bonus is this? Niantic, the developers of Pokémon GO, announced the new bonus on the night of Saturday, November 7.
They explain that you now only need a quarter of the actual distance to hatch the eggs. So to hatch a 5 km egg, you now only need to cover about 1.25 kilometers. The bonus applies to all egg types in the game that you can hatch.
Keep in mind: You will only see this bonus when you place eggs in the incubator. The bonus is not displayed directly at the eggs. Eggs that were already in the incubator before the event starts also do not receive this bonus.
How long does the bonus last? The reduced hatching distance will be active in the game for about a week. Niantic explains that this bonus ends on November 13 at 3 PM PT, which corresponds to 00:00 AM on November 14 in German time.
Attention: Keep in mind the current restrictions on going outside due to Corona in your region. However, you do not necessarily have to go outside to hatch eggs. You can also conveniently hatch the eggs in Pokémon GO from home.
Keep in mind that there is currently a risk of contracting the coronavirus for yourself and others. The Federal Center for Health Education recommends staying at home as much as possible, keeping distance from others, and avoiding gatherings of people.
Why is there this bonus?
Android is “to blame”: On Twitter, Niantic’s support account explains why this bonus is available in the game now. Previously, there were persistent issues with Adventure Sync on Android devices. This is the feature that counts your steps and distances traveled, even when Pokémon GO is turned off. You can also find Pokémon with the app closed.
The developers write: “Thank you for your understanding while we worked on the problems affecting Adventure Sync on Android 9 and older versions. As a token of appreciation for your patience, we are now launching the 1/4-hatching distance bonus, which will remain in effect until [November 14 at 00:00].” (via Twitter)
