A major task in the augmented reality game “Pokémon GO” is to complete your collection with various Pokémon. Some monsters like Pidgey, Hoothoot, or Rattata appear frequently and are among the Pokémon that trainers have caught the most. So one gets even more excited when a rare monster like Lapras or Aerodactyl actually appears and can be caught. But which monsters are particularly rare and which ones are encountered more often?
Rare Pokémon
The following list is based on discoveries by trainers on Reddit and other social networks. It reflects that some Pokémon are significantly more common to find than others. Here you can get an impression of which monsters are special.
Commonly found:
- Gen 1 – Pidgey, Rattata, Zubat, Caterpie, Weedle
- Gen 2 – Sentret, Hoothoot, Ledyba
Frequently found:
- Gen 1: Eevee, Zubat, Oddish, Magikarp, Snorlax, Meowth, Pidgeotto, Bellsprout, Paras, Krabby, Horsea
- Gen 2: Sneasel, Hoppip, Marill, Espeon, Murkrow, Spinarak, Remoraid, Natu
Unusual:
- Gen 1: Clefairy, Nidoran, Ekans, Golem, Goldeen, Quagsire, Shellder, Jigglypuff, Magneton, Gastly, Staryu, Psyduck, Poliwag, Tentacool, Ditto
- Gen 2: Chinchou, Sunflora, Surskit, Snubbull, Wooper, Teddiursa
Rare:
- Gen 1: Dratini, Onix, Magmar, Abra, Growlithe, Geodude, Ponyta, Magnemite, Sandshrew
- Gen 2: Yanma, Shuckle, Mantine, Snorlax, Slugma, Hariyama, Piloswine, Phanpy, Donphan, Feebas
Very rare:
- Gen 1: Bulbasaur, Squirtle, Charmander, Pikachu (especially with party hat), Electabuzz, Machop, Grimer, Rhydon, Voltorb, Slurpuff, Tangela, Omanyte, Scyther, Pinsir, Kabuto
- Gen 2: Chikorita, Croconaw, Cyndaquil, Larvitar, Houndoom, Surskit
Extremely rare:
- Gen 1: Lapras, Snorlax, Porygon, Hitmonlee, Hitmonchan, Aerodactyl, Chansey
- Gen 2: Miltank, Togetic, Unown, Hitmontop, Mareep, Donphan, Girafarig
Exclusive:
- The Baby Pokémon Pichu, Cleffa, Igglybuff, Togepi, Roselia, Magby, Electkid, and Smoochum are only available from eggs.
Also note:
- Evolved forms of the above-mentioned Pokémon are rarer than the mentioned monsters.
- Some Pokémon like Steelix or Porygon2 are only available via evolution items
- Regional Pokémon like Mr. Mime and Kangaskhan are not available in Germany
- Espeon and Umbreon can be acquired through special tricks in the game
Pokémon GO – Botogel and Farbigeagle are missing
Some of the legendary Pokémon can’t currently be found in the wild. The following Pokémon are not yet integrated into the game:
- Gen 1 Legendary: Zapdos, Moltres, Articuno, Mewtwo, Mew
- Gen 2 Legendary: Entei, Raikou, Suicune, Lugia, Ho-oh, Celebi
- Legendary Pokémon like Mewtwo are expected to be added this year
- Not yet released from Gen 2: Farbigeagle and Botogel
