With the introduction of Dialga in Pokémon GO, the question now is how good the Pokémon is. We compare the legendary monster to its predecessor Palkia.
Why the comparison? Dialga has been available for battling in Pokémon GO for a few days now. When comparing it to Palkia, you find some parallels:
- The stats are approximately equal
- Both Pokémon are of Dragon type
- They both belong to the Dimension Trio
In fact, Dialga and Palkia are similar in many ways. Therefore, they are ideal for comparison. We tell you which of the two Pokémon is better and in which you should invest your Stardust.
Dialga and Palkia – What legendary Pokémon can do
First, we compare the stats of the two Pokémon:
| Dialga | Palkia | |
| Attack Value | 275 | 280 |
| Defense Value | 211 | 215 |
| HP Value | 205 | 189 |
| Max CP | 4038 | 3991 |
| Types | Dragon/Steel | Dragon/Water |
How strong Dialga is
This is what the stats mean for Dialga: The stats of Dialga are above average. Its attack value is extremely high and its other two stats allow Dialga to withstand a lot of damage.
This is the advantage of Dialga: The type combination makes Dialga so dangerous. Normally, you use Dragon Pokémon against other Dragons, as they are very effective. In turn, opponents are also very effective. You deal a lot of damage, but you also get defeated much faster.
Additionally, Dialga has the Steel type. Therefore, Dragon attacks against the Pokémon are not very effective. You can effectively hit Dragon Pokémon with Dialga, but you won’t get defeated quickly.
This is the disadvantage of Dialga: The moves do not exactly speak in Dialga’s favor. With Draco Meteor, the Pokémon learns a rather weak move and is therefore surpassed by competitors like Rayquaza or Dragonite.
How strong Palkia is
This is what the stats of Palkia mean: The attack value of Palkia is among the top 10. With this, it can deal a lot of damage against almost any Pokémon. Its other stats are also good.
This is the advantage of Palkia: The legendary Pokémon is not only a strong Dragon attacker, but also a strong Water attacker. Although it does not have a Water-type fast move, it is among the Top 5 Water attackers.
This is the disadvantage of Palkia: Similar to Dialga, the moves are not good here either. If Palkia could learn Outrage, it would be the top attacker together with Rayquaza. Since it can only learn Draco Meteor, it is significantly weaker.
Conclusion – Which Pokémon is better?
This is what the comparison says: Actually, both Pokémon are a good choice. So if you have enough Stardust and candies, it doesn’t hurt to level both up.
However, both legendary Pokémon have their advantages. So it depends on the situation which Pokémon is better.
Then Dialga is the better choice: If you want to use the Pokémon mainly against other Dragon Pokémon, Dialga is better. It simply can take more hits in this regard, and you save numerous potions. If you are low on potions and revives, then go with Dialga.
Then Palkia is the better choice: If you are looking for an all-rounder that deals solid damage against almost any Pokémon, then Palkia is the better choice. It also deals damage faster against other Dragon Pokémon. However, this also impacts the revives and potions. If you focus on speed and often raid in small groups, then Palkia is better.
At the end of March, a Grass event probably awaits us:
