The current champion in Pokémon GO explains which Pokémon he believes are currently overrated and underrated.
Who is the champion? The champion is the trainer MEweedle. He is the winner of the last Pokémon Europe International Championships (EUIC), which took place from April 5 to April 7, 2024, in London. This is one of the largest competitive events in Pokémon GO.
This tournament is played in the so-called Show Six
format up to a maximum of 1500 CP. This means that all trainers choose 6 Pokémon in advance, from which they select 3 to start a battle.
MEweedle has now stated to Dot Esports which Pokémon he believes are the most underrated and overrated for competitive play in tournaments. He also shared which Pokémon he is particularly looking forward to that is not yet in the game.

It is quite reliable
Which Pokémon is overrated? According to MEweedle, Epitaff is currently an overrated Pokémon in Pokémon GO, especially in the Show Six
format. At the EUIC 2024, Epitaff was present in 45% of all teams. He explains his opinion as follows:
It is neutral against many [Pokémon], but neutral loses because it is outperformed by Pokémon like Lanturn and Welsar. I don’t think it’s bad, just a bit overrated.
Additionally, he mentions that his opinion mainly refers to the Show Six
format. In the regular battle leagues, he still considers Epitaff to be quite solid
despite his criticism.
Which Pokémon is underrated? Akkup, a Pokémon from the 7th generation with Bug and Electric types, is according to MEweedle a perfect Pokémon for the current meta. Akkup was present in 33.3% of the teams at the EUIC 2024. He comments on the Pokémon as follows:
Given how many Pokémon are weak against it and how neutral it is in some [meta] teams, it is quite reliable as long as you don’t see Skorgla.
Which Pokémon is the trainer looking forward to? MEweedle is particularly looking forward to the Pokémon Durengard, which is not yet available in Pokémon GO. This is the final evolution of Gramokles, a Pokémon from the 6th generation with Steel and Ghost types.
What is interesting about Durengard is that it has a Shield and a Sword form. In the main Pokémon games, it is capable of changing its form during battles. Whether this will be possible in Pokémon GO or if the forms will be treated as separate Pokémon is still unknown.
