With the introduction of Crypto Monsters in Pokémon GO, many players have found new favorites. This is interesting, as the story behind the Crypto Pokémon is dark.
What are Crypto Pokémon? You receive these monsters when you have fought against Team Rocket. As a reward for the victory, you will then receive these Pokémon.
But what really lies behind the Crypto Pokémon? We tell you why they have red eyes and why players love them despite their sad story.
The sad story behind the Crypto Pokémon
How they are formed: Crypto Pokémon actually do not have a nice backstory. In the console games, they were stolen in their normal form by villains and then subjected to a kind of brainwashing.
As a result, the “door to the heart of the Pokémon” was closed. They feel no emotions anymore, which is why they become much stronger and more brutal.
So despite the sad background, many players do not want to redeem the Crypto Pokémon. They want to keep the door to the heart closed.
What players love: The reason is the different appearance of the Crypto Pokémon. Many players think it’s really cool how the Pokémon look with their red eyes.
For example, the Reddit user ski-ro-dah writes on Reddit: “I want to keep my Crypto Pokémon. I know that the redeemed version is much stronger, but the Crypto version looks so cute!”
The Reddit user also receives support. Another player says that the current Crypto Pokémon are all not very useful. So you can leave them in the Crypto version with a clear conscience.
Is it worth redeeming at all? From a purely statistical point of view, a Crypto Pokémon becomes better after redemption, as it receives a boost of 2 points in each of its stats. Additionally, it comes directly at level 25. So it also becomes better in terms of CP than the Crypto version.
Currently, however, with the exception of Snorlax and Dratini, there are no really useful Crypto Pokémon. So you can keep the Crypto Pokémon with a clear conscience, as you don’t miss much if you redeem them.
But there are also other details that Team Rocket appreciates. Our author Noah is pleased about the difficulty:
