At the upcoming Pokémon GO Community Day in December, there will be plenty of event Pokémon to catch. However, one of them caused some confusion.
This is the December Community Day: The big Community Day in December brings back the event Pokémon from past Community Days into the game for two days.
Among them, Pikachu with the event move Surf will also be available. Although the Electric-type Pokémon does not belong to the best move combinations of the event day, it at least has collector’s value. Nevertheless, it has recently become a bit surprisingly hot topic.

Pichu replaces Pikachu in eggs
Here was the problem with Pikachu: As Niantic Support shared on Twitter, there was an error in announcing the event Pokémon. On the blog, it was stated that Pikachu would also hatch from eggs.
However, this is not correct: In fact, the baby Pokémon Pichu will hatch from eggs, which can then be evolved into Event Pikachu with Surf.
This is how the community reacts: The initial reactions from players seem somewhat confused overall. However, not because they question the decision. Rather, it’s because hardly anyone had noticed it.
- “It’s great that this has been communicated. But it was almost no topic due to Pikachu’s insignificant move,” says user “datafactorytips“.
- “It’s just for something like this that they apologize,” wonders user “here_for_the_lols“.
- Jonas Nielsen commented on Twitter: “Hardly anyone will be upset about this. I read it as Pichu anyway.”
This could be an advantage: Even though it is not a significant change, the announcement could have small advantages.
After all: Some players are looking forward to evolving their collected hat Pichus into a hat Pikachu with Surf. Trainers are also hoping for additional shiny Pichus. These should at least have a high collector’s value – even if they are not very useful in battles against Team Rocket.
A bigger point of criticism, which has recently improved, were the raid rewards:
