Missing updates for Pokémon GO are particularly troubling for YouTubers who specialize in the game.
In the summer of 2016, Pokémon GO was released and captivated fans around the world. Gradually, the developers added new content to the game to continue entertaining trainers. In September, Niantic confirmed the buddy Pokémon that accompany trainers on their adventures and earn candies. In December, there was another major content update that introduced some Pokémon from the 2nd generation to the game.
Since the last major update in December, however, it has been quiet, as there have been no special announcements from the developers. This not only demotivates players but also makes it difficult for YouTubers.
No content, no videos
On the internet, trainers frequently speak out criticizing the lack of content in Pokémon GO. They desire new updates, functioning trackers, the trading feature and more Pokémon from the 2nd generation.
Several YouTube channels have specialized in Pokémon GO since its release in July, producing videos with tips, tricks, and news. The lack of content is noticeable for these channels, as they run out of topics without new features or updates.
Nick from the Trainer Tips YouTube channel has released a video discussing the future of his YouTube channel. Within the first two months after its inception, the channel reached 500,000 subscribers. Since then, only about 100,000 have been added. If he continues to upload only Pokémon GO videos, his fate lies in Niantic’s hands. Therefore, his channel will also feature videos about other games or topics in the future.
Other large Pokémon GO channels like Mystic7, BenTimm1, or Reversal are also considering how things will progress in the coming weeks and months.
The lack of content is a major problem for Pokémon GO, which sees itself as a game with long-term viability, similar to World of Warcraft. The Valentine’s Day event unfortunately did not bring any new Pokémon into the game, but currently, players earn double candies.
We are curious when the next major content announcement from Niantic will come.
