Christmas 2018 brings back a Pokémon in Pokémon GO. The penguin Pokémon Botogel returns.
Niantic has engaged with a Christmas event for the first time in 2018. Previous code revealed hints by dataminers about a Christmas event. Niantic has now confirmed that Botogel will return.
Why is Botogel fitting? Botogel is the Christmas Pokémon. It is dressed like Santa Claus but resembles a penguin much more. With its move “Gift,” it either deals damage or returns energy to its opponent. However, in Pokémon GO, the move can only deal damage.
When is Botogel coming in 2018?
How do you know Botogel is coming? In a statement in the Pokémon GO newsletter, Niantic wrote: “We have some important news! It seems that the gift Pokémon, Botogel, will return for Christmas this month. What kind of surprise will it bring? Stay tuned!”
When will Botogel come? Botogel will likely return for an event around Christmas. Last year, Niantic released Botogel on December 21, together with a Christmas event. Now newcomers who missed Botogel can complete their PokéDex.
Can you find Botogel outside of Christmas? After the Christmas event ended last year, Botogel disappeared as well. The Pokémon was only available to catch around the Christmas season.
Can we expect a Christmas event? So far, Niantic has held an event in Pokémon GO every Christmas. Last year, besides Botogel, Pikachu wearing a Santa hat was available to catch. Additionally, some third-generation Pokémon were released.
This year, dataminers have already found a hint in the code of Pokémon GO about an event. In a list of events, a Christmas event has now also been entered in the code. Furthermore, Niantic talks about surprises coming along with Botogel in their newsletter.
It remains to be seen whether Niantic is planning an event and what bonuses will be involved.
