What is a Community Day? It is a recurring monthly event in Pokémon GO. During the event, a special Pokémon is in the spotlight and can also be caught as Shiny.
The event is accompanied by special bonuses that are meant to make playing more attractive during that time.
In July’s Community Day, everything revolves around Shuppet. The ghost came second in your voting and secured an event because of that.

When? On Sunday, July 19, 2020 – from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM local time
Event Pokémon: Shuppet
Exclusive Attack: Shadow Punch (for Gengar)
Bonus: Distance required to hatch eggs reduced to a quarter
Bonus: Incense lasts for 3 hours
Bonus: You can evolve Shuppet into Banette up to two hours after the event to learn the move Shadow Punch
For the event itself, you have a whole six hours to catch Pokémon and hatch eggs. After that, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, you can focus on evolving the Pokémon to secure the event move.
What’s special: During the Community Day, there is a Community Day Box in the shop. It offers 30 Ultra Balls, a Premium Battle Pass, two Incense, and two Super Incubators.
For about one euro, you can unlock the special research for the Community Day with Shuppet.
How to make the most of the Community Day
Stay active, even at home: With the significantly reduced distance for incubators, you can hatch eggs extremely quickly. Make sure to only put the eggs in the incubators after the event starts, so the bonus is activated. Eggs that were already in the incubator before the event starts do not receive a bonus on the required distance.
Then, movement is key. If you are outside and adhere to current COVID regulations, you can hatch many eggs. Alternatively, you can do this from home with the help of Adventure Sync. This is how you hatch eggs without going outside.
Use Incense effectively: Since Incense lasts so long during the event and attracts about 90 Pokémon per hour, you should definitely use it. Combine it with the catch trick for maximum success.
Stock up on Poké Balls: During the event, many Shuppet will spawn in the wild. Even more with Incense. It is therefore essential that you have enough balls in your inventory – preferably several hundred. Start storing balls early and open many gifts from friends to receive balls.
Niantic explained (via Twitter), that your buddy Pokémon will not bring Poké Balls to you during the Community Day. Instead, you will find a free box in the shop containing 30 Ultra Balls. In addition, gifts from friends during the event will contain more Poké Balls than usual.

Shiny Shuppet, Banette, and Gengar
This is what it looks like: During the Community Day, the chances of encountering Shiny Shuppet increase, as you will encounter many of these monsters. If you evolve such an example further, the evolutions Banette and Gengar can also be Shiny in your collection. In the following graphic, you can see what this Shiny family looks like.
Gengar with Shadow Punch – How strong is that?
Gengar with Shadow Punch in Raids: Gengar does not need the attack Shadow Punch in raids. This is primarily because Gengar as a glass cannon is quite fragile and goes down quickly. So, do not use this attack if you could use Shadow Ball instead. Because it is a charge move with three bars, it can be used effectively to unleash the remaining energy just before the Pokémon is knocked out (via gamepress.gg).
Gengar with Shadow Punch in PvP: In the Ultra League, Gengar with the Shadow Punch attack could score points. The interesting part of using it is that the charge move can be used quickly and might bait shields from opponents.
