5. Community Day in May with Charmander Overview – Time, Bonuses
For collectors of unique Fire-type Pokémon, Saturday, May 19, will be an important day. For three hours, the Community Day in May will be active, bringing you plenty of Charmander in the wild. Its base catch rate is, like other starter Pokémon, at 20%.
This way you can gather candy for this species and evolve strong monsters into Charmeleon and Charizard.
This exclusive move is available: A Charizard caught or evolved during the event can master the move Blast Burn. Only Charizard can learn this move.
Do TMs help? Fast TMs and Charged TMs do not teach exclusive moves during Community Days.

Since past Community Days featured the corresponding event Pokémon all available as Shiny, it is expected that the Community Day in May will offer the Shiny Charmander family. The dark Charizard looks cool and is very popular in the community. Update: Trainers have confirmed that the Shiny forms of Charmander, Charmeleon, and Charizard are active.

Preparations – Pack These Items
During the event, you will receive triple the amount of Stardust for catching a Pokémon. If you find a spot in the sun (sunny weather in Pokémon GO), Charmander will be boosted, and you will receive even more Stardust for a catch. The maximum yield is obtained when you also activate a Star Piece.
You should have plenty of these items during Community Day:
- Poké Balls – Fill your pockets with many Poké Balls of all kinds to catch as many monsters as possible and fully exploit the triple Stardust rewards.
- Lures – A lure lasts three hours during the event. If you have a spot with several PokéStops nearby, you can attract many monsters efficiently.
- Lucky Eggs – Are you still eagerly collecting experience points? Then activate Lucky Eggs for the event.
- Incense – By igniting incense, more Pokémon will appear in your vicinity. This increases your chances of encountering a Shiny.
