The starter Pokémon from the Johto region, Chikorita, Cyndaquil, and Totodile, can apparently no longer hatch from the 5KM eggs in Pokémon GO.
Until the Easter event, there was no way to obtain the 2nd generation starter monsters from eggs in Pokémon GO. During the egg extravaganza, however, the contents of the eggs changed, allowing Chikorita, Totodile, and Cyndaquil to hatch from them.
The trainers from PokémonGOHub have now investigated and discovered that the three starters are no longer found in the eggs.
What hatches now from 5KM eggs?
During the Easter event, the Pokémon GO developers made changes to the various egg types. Porygon was for example moved from the 5KM category to the 10KM category. In exchange, there was a big surprise in the 5KM eggs with the starter Pokémon of the second generation.
Totodile, Cyndaquil, and also Chikorita have now appeared from the five-kilometer eggs collected during the Eggstravaganza event. But what about eggs collected after the event? Do they still contain the starter Pokémon? This is a question many trainers in the community are asking. The trainers of the PokémonGOHub community have now checked this.
The trainers have hatched many of the relevant 5KM eggs that were collected after the event. They concluded that the starter monsters are no longer in these eggs.
Egg content already determined when picked up
Confusion arose due to the fact that in recent weeks, Totodile, Chikorita, or Cyndaquil hatched from 5KM eggs. However, those were eggs collected during the egg event.
The content of the eggs in Pokémon GO is already determined when you pick up the eggs. So if you receive an egg as a reward from a PokéStop, then the egg already contains the information about which monster will hatch from it – no matter when that happens.
Five-kilometer eggs collected during the Easter event from April 13 to April 20 may still carry the starter monsters as a reward. Eggs in the 5KM category collected before or after the event cannot reward you with these three monsters.
